not really mate just think about what happened to that DHL 757 and that aeroflot 'machine' they both had TCAS II fitted and the russian guy followed what the controller told him to do which was the exact opposite of TCAS and the 757 followed TCAS so they both collided so there still always a chance! TCAS only works if the pilot follows what it tells him or her!

its the same with EGPWS just think how many aircraft are fitted with that but u still get so many incidents of CFIT its unbelievable!

But i do agree the press do blow things out of all proportion becuase they dont fully understand the facts and how things work and i haven't seen a picture yet either so it could just be an optical illusion!

what happened between the DHL 757 plane and the Tupolev was a bit different, the pilots on the Tupolev had not received the correct training regarding TCAS. For instance, when there is a situation that TCAS issues a subjective, the air traffic controller must shut his face and not speak a single word until TCAS cancels the directive. this is is the system can operate to its maximum. the pilots must also carry out a hard menouvre either up or down, with full throttle to climb, or steep emergency descent. it is VERY unlikely that this could occur again, since training has been improved in Russian and middle eastern/eastern european airlines.
