Yeh I didn't really see why he was laughing?
To be fair, we all know what happened... you probably went in a bit too hard / fast into the roundabout (easy to do - especially with a bird behind lol), lost the back end and rather than applying just the right amount of throttle (too much would wheel spin and understeer more) to direct the car out of the slide, you either A )
Lifted off / braked... applied too much opposite lock and suddenly the front wheels gripped causing the car to change direction very quick and head for the barrier - paniced and braked, sliding into the barrier.
Or B ) felt it go, and just braked hard and slid into the barrier thingy.
or c ) something like that.
To be honest, it's very easy to do and very easy to say you wouldn't do the same in the same situation. However, I've seen many people do it and I did it too when I was 17 in my corsa - charged into a roundabout, lost the back end and slammed the anchors on... slid across the roundabout almost facing wrong way and stopped. Thankfully was at 2am and didn't hit the barrier.
Only after going on track / kinda learning to drive a bit more, I learnt that unless you have some power (even a small amount) going through the front wheels your car basically drifts where it wants to go through corners.
Go into a bend and lift off and either the back will come out, or the front will understeer wide... Either really your kinda fucked. Go into a corner and just keep at least a little bit of throttle on and it'll pull you around the bend.
Just a reminder of how slippery it is out there at the moment, and people should try to take it easy at the moment.
Either way, sorry to hear about that mate - As you know - I like 106's If you get the insurance money, save for a Gti

Much appreciated mate, thats good advice.
I for one know that the stupidest thing to do when oversteering would be to let go off the accelerator. I kept the power on and applied opposite lock then felt the car edging more sideways at which point i slammed the steering wheel too far over and sent the car too far in the right direction, pointing me into the barrier. Its a good thing i didnt slam the brakes on, the car would have slid sideways into the barrier and probably through it, and theres a steep drop on the other side.

It's a shame mate, awful feeling to crash your car.
Maybe go for some skid pan training, you'll be better prepared for any skids in future then. Well worth it.

PMSL I've done that one too about a year and a half ago, first week of uni - I thought I'd take my new uni mate who said he was into cars, out in my 1.2 16v beast of a car.
Accelerated hard down a dual carriageway, threw the car into the roundabout wanting to go right - Back end came out, he shat himself, so did I... facing the inside of the roundabout, had full lock on and tried powering out - but A ) applied far too much opposite lock and b ) forgot to wind it back out and release the lock as the car suddenly gripped and flew us the opposite way, I then caught that properly and drove the car normally up the hill off the roundabout.
My mate said very little - I said 'Oops... not done that since I was about 17' - Before I knew it, all these new people I had met didn't dare come in a car with me, as my new mate had told everyone I'm insane behind the wheel
lol - definately learnt my lesson. After the speeding offence I drive a lot slower now, but accidents do and will still happen. You were just unlucky mate, too be honest - I personally don't think the damage looks fatal.
New wing (cheap on ebay). new tyre / wheel (also cheap on ebay), new arch, new bonnet / re-banged back into shape, t-cut the front bumper and get tracking checked.

Its just one of those things, most of us go through it. 99% of drivers I know crashed at one stage. Im hoping its easily fixed, my main worry is the fact I couldnt get the engine started afterwards. Il try not to worry myself too much though. Its reassuring knowing im not the only one!
