Its sort of like the awkward situation my uncle and auntie had. They had divorced, my auntie had remarried and one night the old uncle came round and started laying into the new uncle. the new uncle was practically brought up in the army, and very self disciplined, he just stood there and took it as he didnt want to get involved with this bloke. the ex uncle kept slagging off the auntie until eventually he collapsed in his drunken state and was thrown out. He came back a week later at a family party (chrisinting or somethinng daft like that) and slagged off the new uncle personally. At this point he felt he had the justification to fight back, and came close to killing him 
Sort of similar, i have respect for people who can take a beating, a very honourable thing to do under certain circumstances.

It's not fair on her to be wholly emotionally dependant on you to be honest... I've been with women like this in the past, it's totally draining, and doesn't do either of you or your relationship any good.
Seeing as it's come to the point where you had to get the law in, I would suggest you maybe have a think about everything - ie. is she REALLY worth all this, is she grateful you are actually there for her, or is she just taking the piss out of you.
Sorry for the lecture. Although I've not had the exact same situation as you, I've had one very similar to it, so I know what it's like unfortunately.

Sounds like you feel a lot for her. Do you think the poor girl had a flashback from nearly being killed. Thats a hard thing for her to deal with.
