Not condemning smoking at all by the way. Used to do myself. It's just a major "drag factor" when trying to get fit. It essentially means that you have to do double the exercise and hard work to get to the same level of fitness as someone doing half the exercise or work who doesn't smoke. And even then you're not really as fit in terms of your lungs and probably heart.
Another tip, I always find that a can of Redbull works wonders half an hour before you hit the gym... or your household workout.

Dont use red bull.

I drink "WHEY" that really boosts things up, also use Creatine to boost performance in the past.

I would love to get back in the gym and use that all under one roof - but i simply cant afford it.

theres all kind of different types dolly. of course theres the left handed wank so u exercise both wrists, but my personal favourite is a pokey bum wank, not only does it give u good wrist/knuckle strenghtning but at the same time ur bum cheeks feel more firm and ready for action later. wanking can work out for every muscle in ur body if u know what ur doing

Personally i think its one of those things.
If you think "hard" enough thats its going to help you then you believe it does.

For me the jury is out - i have used it in the past and its helped endurance than anything else.

Sometimes it has done nothing - but i would never use 'roids@ i didnt really "want" to use creatine but i did - i wont again though.

Yeah good stuff mate. Try keeping the smoking at bay. Like I said I smoked for around two years in the past. Was always down the gym/playing sports throughout high-school and then when my A-Levels hit, due to the workload gave all of that up temporarily and began smoking through stress and peer pressure really.
When I finished my A-Levels, started back at the gym, and after that first session back there, got out the door and threw my fags away. Never went back.

Shocked into quitting, would be an understatement, as to how it had affected my cardio fitness and overall physical shape over the two years.

Must have been the fags as my drinking habits remained the same throughout. LOL.
Well... just finished uni and my fitness is pretty damn good if not at my peak... and never drank so much as I have in the last three years whilst at uni. LOL.

Yeah was shocked at the Guiness thing. Also... a Pot Noodle has as many calories in as a Mars Bar and are actually harder to burn off than the Mars Bar calories.

Same as a McDonalds salad has the same amount of calories in it than one and a half supersized Big Mac meals. And a bad level of salt (salt is bad by the way. LOL)

Some really dodgy foods out there.

alot of people say that it just gives a placebo effect more than anything. Loads of people use it just to gain abit of weight through water retention. It worked with me but i didnt notice any energy gains from it.

Quite simply put... don't use Creatine. It's BOLLOX. LOL.

ALL creatine actually does is pump you full of water. It's a water retention powder that you drink with water. Basically whilst on it, the water you take in... is pumped into and stored within the mucsles you have worked out. As soon as you stop the training it is all lost quicker than putting the weight gain on. You'll know this is true because if you have ever been on it and wear socks you'll notice that the sock neck leaves a heavy imprint on your skin. Creatine basically... makes you LOOK bigger. Doesn't add to strength or real gain at all. More of a PSEUDO additive.
It is also quite bad for your muscles, you'll notice the affect is has on your muscles if you picked up on the increased number of cramps it gave you, etc.

I personally weight train a hell of alot and all I take is a high protein/high carb mixed powder which you have with water or ideally milk (for the Calcium). I take this because I simply can't take in enough protein or carb a day through my diet. Something like 8cans of Tuna and 6bowls of pasta is what I should be taking in. So just alot easier to keep a light well balanced diet with some protein and carbs (tuna-pasta salad from a supermarket is ideal) and lot of water and then after every work out (once a day) I have one of those powdered drinks. Works a treat. No cramps and no false gains, all muscle.

Oh yeah, Creatine is also REALLY bad to take if you either don't work out or don't work out nearly enough as you should be doing whilst on it. As the water retention it promotes in your muscles when working out correctly simply turns to water retention around your mid-riff and also promotes fat storage.

i found most of the above out after taking JUST creatine powder. The first type i used was loaded with carbs and worked well, i put on about 5kg within the first week, obviously the weight fluxuated but it was around that. I never noticed anything, i didnt feel or look bigger but the weight went on. I was also told i was amongst the 30% that doesnt respond to the stuff and was recommended tri-creatine but decided to stick to JUST whey. Now that i been there and done it. I would only ever recommend whey protein and multi-vitamins as supplements

Creatine is a funny product. Cheap and nasty sources turn to Creatinine very quickly within the body as it's natually produced within your body anyway. Personally I'd stick to meal replacemant and protein shakes for maximum effect. Personally I'd also reccomend ProGain (meal replacement/protein) and Promax Extreme (Pure Protein) all from Maximuscle

I find it funny that people say running is so boring. How is running for the same length of time more or less boring than rowing or cycling? Its the fact that its harder and your a lazy kunt that makes you come up with the boredome excuse.

If you cant run your not fit.

Unless of course your unfortunate and have leg problems, wheel chair athletes look super fit to me!

I meant people in general

The only running I enjoy is at football too mate, or out with my bro at the weekend occasionally, but it will increase your fitness quicker. Cycling and rowing are great also for fitness. I have been told the body gets used to doing a certain exercise after a certain duration and manages to perform more efficiently meaning you will burn less calories, so yea, a bit of running followed by some rowing and cycling is the best bet.

Running on the treadmill is not enjoyable I agree, but keep thinking about why your doing it

Do you work out to music? A good set of tunes with a fast beat should help.
I am not a dance music fan, but i listen to it when running cos it helps.
Also, concentrate on controlling your breathing and the pain in your legs will go to the back of your head

stick with it

PS - The older you get the harder fitness is to regain, trust me!
I have been told the body gets used to doing a certain exercise after a certain duration and manages to perform more efficiently meaning you will burn less calories
.

This is true, the body adapts to the exercise. For example if your in the gym doing bench press. Anatomically the muscle fibres rip and grow back bigger/stronger (hypertrophy of the muscle grows]. Thats why it is necessary to go extra, eg add extra weight so the body is not used to it and you are placing strain on the muscles being worked, eg for Bench press it's Pectoralis Major/Minor and Triceps.

Best bet is using a rower machine for cardio if you have access to one. Failing that and you want to get fit quick in your own home I strongly recommend starting out on 3 sets of 20 press-ups and 3 sets of 20 situps a night (depending upon your current level of fitness), every night. Takes a matter if minutes. And increase the exercises in terms of number of sets and number of reps in each set every week so that you really push yourself. Pressups are great a great exercise all round... cardio fitness, stamina building and strength increasing. The same goes for situps but they work the mid-section where as press-ups focus on the upper and lower body. You should load the exercises so that every set you struggle to push the last 5 or so reps out, that's when most gains take place. If you want some info on fitness and techniques, etc U2U me mate as am really into my fitness. Cheers and hope that helps.

[Edited on 02-12-2005 by Tiger_kpt]

let me just clarify this mate, you own a gym and think situps are one of the best exercises?

there's no real quick way to get fit....if you want to 'be' fit then you need to work at it over a period of at least several months. The more work you put in during this time the fitter you will become....
