the 4x4 would be no good for off road.
Yes if you had to pay somone to do it, it would be a very very exspensive job, as theres alot of work, welding and time.
as for your mate, ask him. is a mechanic or just work behind the counter? asking him how good he is and weather he could do it, people know there limits.

nah he's just a normal mechanic... not a research/development desk guy

Me and my mate changed a engine and box over in a astra cab for £200ish
You can prob pick up a full salvage calibra for £500
I can imagine the fabrication of a shorter prop etc being dear but never thought thousands...
oh well would have been pretty exclusive though eh.
