exactly. now dont get me started on korea. but look at senegal. peroform very well in last world cup...where are they now? who knows. consistant performers challeneging for the world cup time on time, baring grudges against other countries is what its about. not for some small country to come in, try their best, no aim to win the cup, and then disappear next tournament
sorry luigi but... WTF?
I'm pretty sure that every team that enters the world cup tries to win it
Can imagine the team talk for Togo before their opening match...
"now lads, i know we're crap and shouldn't really be here but let's just get our asses whooped and then we can be off home"

you are clearly living in an imaginary land. Togo will be happy with qualifying. but if they are put in the same group as brazil argentina england or france, their aim will be to keep it less than 4 goals. how on earth can any one have the ignorance to think that a team like togo or angola will go to the world cup with the mentality that they can win it.
Venom Turbo: australia arent bad they have some qulity players. Tunisa are african champions, of course they're a decnt outfit. but i am talking about togo and the other small countries that up until now i didnt know played football.
i say again these countries will not have the mentality that they can win, im sure qualification is a big enough achievement, yes they wil play but realistically can you see togo attack pentrating a german or italian defece. no, of course you cant. therefore that means if these teams dont have the mentality that England france or other big teams will have that means thats not competition, and therefore dimising the "world cup competition"

PMSL do you mean cos' he should be somewhere better in the premiership (PSML again) or he would have better chance back at millwall (quite possibly ) Cahill's ok but he's not a superstar and everton are not good and not shit (bar this season ) he's about right their i'd say.

Liverpool should have got their asses kicked in last years champions league on paper, but they went on to win it. Fair play to them for qualifying.

You say Togo will have the ignorance to think they can win, you have the outright ignorance of draggin a teams achievement down to the ground, get off your high horse, take a reality pill while your there too, your opinions on football are a fooking joke.

Congratulations to Togo for qualifying, woop-dee-fucking-doo. Now do you think that the Togo or Angola team will think that they can win the World Cup? If the answer to this is yes, you have no clue about football in any way shape or form, and your view on football is a joke.
i am not trying to bring down any country in any way, im just saying with these teams qualifying, the rate of competiton will drop in the tournament, and especially if they go far, the value of the world cup wil drop imo. if togo won the world cup by some freak chance, would they be back next year, likley answer...no, evidence: senegal.

Hardly their fault is it
If you applied the same theory to the FA cup you would start at the semi finals with Chelsea, Man Utd, Liverpool and Arsenal. It would hardly be the exciting competition that it is today.

world cup and fa cup are 2 competitions and in my opionion are fought out in different ways. Fa cup is renowned for giant killers. i dont think this will apply for the world cup. also club and country are 2 different matters

Is this the same shitty togo that qualified top of their group, which incidentally contained senegal or the same tunisia that finished on top of morocco and guinea in their group?
What do you suggest we do gianluigi? will we get a panel of football experts like yourself together and they can pick the teams that 'deserve' to be there, or will we do it the fair way with qualifiers where, to a point, every single nation has a fair chance of qualifying and if you manage to you deserve to be there?

They are both competitions where teams of 11 players try to score more goals than the other team. There are no rules on how they should be fought out.
Club and country are different matters in that you would expect the world cup to be a higher standard of football. However nobody can say to a team "you do not deserve to be here" when they have been through the same qualification process everybody else has.
