the new passats look good to me.
possibly too newly released to fit in your price range.

my old mans just ordered a mondeo st tdci. will be here within 12 weeks so wont be able to let you know what its like til then.

but it supposedly pulls like a train and is quicker than his current saab 9-3 (2.0T) through the mid range
and should return about 45MPG easily

you can pick nearly new up for a good price too cos as already stated they depreciate quite quickly

list's of parts that go wrong,...

rear suspension arms.
rear shockers.
rear anti-roll bar links.
radiator mounts.
egr valves.
inlet manifolds.
re-call on exhausts.
temp sensors.
abs buggering up.
rear tyres lasting only 2000miles.


thats a few reasons not to buy one, as i see them everyday with the same problems, even with warranty it'll be in an out of the garage every 5mins. pile of sh!te

My Dad has one & does a lot of miles in his. I've driven it & was quite suprised with how nice they are to drive, it did take me a little while to get used to the indicator system though.

i remember the 1.8 they gave me for going on a course for work last october.
