If you're going to be using the jump rope outside you'd probably be better of getting the speed one as the leather will get tatty on concrete.

Also fast pace walking will burn fat better than running.

You dont have to waddle like a duck like they do but just a fast paced walk will suffice. When people run they usually bypass fat burning mode and go straight into fitness mode... it's all about the heart rate.

depends on your fitness, but alot of research is saying that a fast walk/steady jog is better weight loss, as Craig said its to do with heart rate and then the body is burning fat rather than working out.
Personally i'd go for a mix, want to get fitter as well as burn fat, jogging abit more intense is hardly bad for you.

Yeah i'm not fat fat although most of my excess fat goes onto my legs so will probably get out jogging a bit, eat a bit healthier and keep playing football etc. oh and drink less

Jogging is better for you as its classed as aerobic excercise. Doing this type of exercise the body is burning fat at a steady rate. As you exercise for longer periods of time all the energy is used in your muscles, therfore you need to create more. The body does this by burning your fat and turning it into energy molecules replacing the ones in the muscles. Aerobic is the way forward: in other words for all that BS do CV!! Damn essay

If during exercise it gets to the point where you're out of breath and cant hold a conversation then you're way past fat burning mode. Thats why bodybuilders walk on a treadmill for cardio leading up to a contest.

When running i do 40 minutes and I do a sprint at the end, usually about 50m. Personally i would stick to CV for now, then when you ahve lost some weight go back to weights but still do CV twice a week and watch what you eat.

5 minute sprint I know what it is saying but to me a sprint is something you could maintain for 10-30 secs max.

This is true. To put this in perpesctive i know people that do nutter aerobic workouts every day and they never look any different, still carrying a lot of fat. One you are past a certain heart rate you will be condition your cardiovascular system. I think for most people the optimum fat burning range is 55-70% of max heart rate, although this figure varies depending on source.
