hmm, im a bit dubious, no doubt it is fecking rapid, but in a corsa shell and chassis plus FWD i dont think will be able to translate it into much useable power, i think round a track evos will swallow you up

Depends if your any good at making the best of what you've got, and by the sounds of it, Tim does this well.

dont forget in that vid, tim has an unfair advantage on the scoob as he is in front and comes of the roundabout first meaning he could get his foot down a good couple of seconds before the scooby driver, but still to do that to one is impressive

You can't argue with that video.....
We have come off a tight rounderbout, the scoobs tyres are screeching, he couldnt of gone any faster (he didnt have to back off for me did he?) and were both low down in 2nd (say 30mph), we both floor it and even with a loss of traction I pull away, then when I do get grip big time I'm off. Remember the Corsa is not on full boost there either....
Braking wise I'll keep with lot better cars too.
Skinz, until you have driven a car like mine you can't qualify statement like that! Where will the Evo swallow me up? Look at Donnington it might make a second or two in the corners but on any straight I more than make that up!

Yes I see what you mean, the scooby was reluctant to tackle the roundabout as he'd like, but round a track 4wd would come into play, hence the evo's advantage, but at them speeds and with it being on a track you wouldn't allow the revs below 4k anyways, even if means you taking corners in 1st gear.
So in fairness the evo would win, but the margin wouldn't be what people would expect.

timrud: so you think mitsubishi plough hundreds of thousands with the best technicians in the world designing the chassis and engine into the evo to make it a thoroughred 4wd rally car, when really they could just stick a let in a corsa for a few grand.
No, il wait to see the results of a track day against some, before i pass proper judgement

I have to aggree with Skinz , to have a fair judgment you need a rolling start or standing start with the scoob parrell,
as you were exciting the roundabout as he was getting on to it, so you are going into boost as hes rolling round it you will pull away from him.

It won't swallow you up Tim, unless it's a Norris designs type thing, I've attended too many track outings with my club in the XE and the LET, even RWD cossies struggle to shrug me off.

yes swallow up was too harsh a word, how about "edge it"?

But I agree with the statement about corsa chassis not design for LET twist, hence why the 1600 was the biggest they did.

I have seen similar, in steves 106 gti, when richy bought his down, they did a side by side rolling start and was neck and neck up to 110, then steve was behind richy coming off a roundabout richy only pulled off the roundabout a split seconds before steve but was pulling away like he so much more power, simply cus he got his power down first.
richy had a passengar too

Skinz my mate has a Mk3 Astra which has MANY a time out handled the scoob in that vid, infact we have gone round him on the outside round rounderbouts before...
4wd a wicked standard car, but with the right mods and driver FWD can be there with it. The lad in the scoob is not shy driving it either (I was in scoob one time and we were on the verge of drifting when he came past).
On donnington there are no corners tight enough for 4wd to have its real advantage....
Organise a track day I say..... no matter how much I preech it nobody believes me! I'll let the car do the talking from now on...

sorry but i thought you'd know better tim, any decent driver driver in a scoob could out handle a mk3 astra any day of the week

Can I just add, having a passenger is an advantage, although it's more weight, it's balanced evenly (hoping that the passenger wasn't a 10tonne whale from Sheffield). This is also a track trick, we just use 2 bags of plaster or cement unless we have co-pilots.

yes no doubt it was impressive, and him you got infront with him the the lead then fairplay i was making a point that any advantage you have on the scoob will be increased more so if your infront and can get on the power sooner

I've always said Tim, 1/4 mile doesn't seperate the bad drivers from the good, stick ya hoof down and the car allows the rest, however a full track lap requires, knowledge of advanced physics, knowing your job, imagining whats happening with the car as your driving it, and a good trial and error system for your next lap in order to get a quicker time on your next lap.
