lesson for everyone, whenever you leave your car at the garage, always take a picture of the mileage and check it when you get back. You can tell how many miles have been done then in your car, my mate rich had over 100 miles put on his uno when it was at a garage we are pretty sure they were driving it about for a while before they even started fixing it.

unsure how MOTS work

Once the car is at their garage (on their property) its their responability irrelevant of whether or not they have worked on it.

that's what i thought. Some people just don't give a sh1t about other people's things! You expect a car getting an MOT to come back better than before, not completely trashed!

my point above is if the car sits there and huge gust of wind opens the bonnet up and they have not touched it, its not up to them to touch it before hand to check its left safe

mate had huge leak as car was left in the rain for hours.. he left the rear window slightly open but garage refused to pay for it.. silly it may seem

u2u me the garage name katie.

Basically u shud explain to them that its there responsibility as they had the car at the time of the damage .etc (as said above) and then explain that if they don't fix it you'll press charges / prosecute them with a solicitor

I see what your saying but that bonnet hasnt just lifted itself up, it would take more than the feeble uk weather to do that.

I will tell you when we have sorted it out, because my mum doesn't want anything said that could go against us (she is paranoid lol) It is a village garage though. I will give an update on the situation 2moz when my bro has spoke to them.

The bonnet has a double catch, everything was checked before the MOT. The bonnet was locked shut, so unless they opened it at the garage and then drove the car, there is no other way that it could have happened. It is the garages fault, and no gust of wind in england, unless a hurricane or a tornado, would do that, especially today in northampton where there wasn't even any wind.

Pretty sure all the tests involved in an MOT would not even require taking the car out for a test-drive, they can all be done "on-site".

As you said, you'd need a SERIOUS gust of wind to lift a bonnet, even if the catch wasn't closed.

Always take a photo of your mileage before your car goes into ANY garage (trusted or not), if it's going to leave your sight at all...

They said it was out on the road to warm it up to test the emmisions, but they said they were only doing 30. Bullsh1t if you ask me! They are deffinately trying to cover something up. Sorry to go on, it has just pissed me off.

they "dont" need to testdrive a car for an mot. Best bet for an MOT is to take it somewhere and hang around while they do it. Most of the places where I live as you to sit in the car and do the lights and brakes for em etc

My mum has been going to this garage for ages, yet they were still well arsey to us. People like that deserve to go bankrupt.

I've seen bonnets flip up at 30 miles an hour. Does it not have a safety catch?

It does have a safety catch, but that is irrelevant, at 30 miles an hour i do not see how it would have done that much damage. You should see the car in the flesh, it is really bad, and it was shut when my bruv sent it to them, so it is the garages fault. They must have opened it and left it open or something. Plus it shouldn't have been out of the garage anyway. I don't see why they were driving it.

Its quite possible for the bonnet to fly up at 30mph but only if the bonnet isnt secured in the first place. It cant flip up if it closed properly. The damage does look like it was being driven faster, i had my Metro bonnet flip up at 40 or so once and it didnt crack the screen.

They were driving so they are responsible for the damage.

Slightly off topic, but when i had the Corsa i took it to a very well known modifying shop to have some under car neons fitted (oh the shame) On the way home i decided to give it some stick. doing 100 or so, bonnet looks like its about to come off so slammed on brakes pulled over and looked at it. I found the bonnet wasnt shut properly as a roll of electrical tape had been jammed under the catch to stop it shutting. The bloke got sacked as he also decided taking my engine mount off to fit an induction kit was a good idea too, without replacing it before we drove off.

I can only think they saw it as a modified car, thought it would be fun to have a look round it, under bonnet then take it for a spin to "test it" now they are trying to cover it up. They are now liable for all the damage to the car

u should go to the police surely its classed as vandilsm/criminal damages or something along those lines and u can have them done for it.at the end of the day they damaged the car and should repair it

id report it if they still dont repair it take them to small claims court

Thanks for everyones advice it has really helped. With everything everyone has said, we know what to have them for now! They have gotta pay for the damages though, i don't see how they can get out of it, as they have admitted to driving it and when something is at a garage, you expect it to be looked after.

I am pretty sure that is what they have done. It's not on is it.
