that's what i'm tryin to say...lot better things to spend that kinda money on.
Like what?
I paid £7k for mine, 36k, full Renault history, 12 months tax, free first mot in August. Being French means corners are actually to be enjoyed and it isn't slower than a standard XE, trust me, I've driven/owned both.
Well mine was inching past my mates 05 plate 182 from a rolling 50 mph ish start sooooo????
Deffo its slightly quicker off the lights as has wider tyres and T/C

Could be any number of reasons. Driver error, tight engine etc. All I know is in a line my Clio just shaded my Corsa, even when drivers were swapped, as soon as you come to a corner though it's game over.

172 is ok, 172 cup is the best of the bunch, until the 182 cup that is.
a 172 cup will be pretty even to a corsa XE.
I cant understand why people say why spend 10k on a car when you can have a corsa XE! Why does everything have to revolve around an aging car, with an old engine in it

Not the point . i wasnt comparing it to my car. Was comparing it for what it was etc. Lovely and comfy performance was ok but not as good as i was expecting, had a nice upper rev range for the car. My sister is getting the clio 1.6 extreme and her bf is getting the 182 cup Next thursday. So ill have a better look when his arrives lol.

Ibiza Cupra 1.8T another one to consider. Can have a decent X reg for 6.5-7k.
Get it revod and you will have circa 200 bhp 200lb/ft.

As its the same argument which people cain Civic type R's, they dont understand with the clio and type R you get the full package comfort economy and also a car that handles well out of the box. Thats why you spend more money on it. Speed is not the end all and see all of a good car. As much as i love my valver you have to see past the fact its still full of faults.
Clios are not crap I love the old 16v's and Williams series as well as the 172/182 and unless you have driven any of the mentioned cars (which i have driven all) you have no foot to comment on.
You people need to see past you corsa tinted glasses
Thank you, another person on this board wiuth some fucking sense
CLio 172s are excellent cars... for the money these days used there is little that is as reliable (as its still fairly new) and they handle/go really really well... they have a nice-ish interior as well
I say go for it dude, you wont regret it

The only other option is stretching the budget to an Astra turbo.
Ibiza Cupra as well, I mforking love them
