Wilson are not shoot they're average and will more than cater for a beginner.
Agreed Donnay are a bit crap, my mate has broken a few of his clubs but that's because he keeps on spanking the floor with them.
I would recommend Dunlop. Like i said they were priced at £30 - £35 per club and were down to £10. Can't go wrong imo

Wilson are pro clubs
Donnay are shit. Dunno what to get Dom maybe get some shit ones to start with that are hceap enough to break and replace to find out whether or not you actually like golf or not then if you get into it then upgrade them like a new set of irons, new putter, new driver etc.

maybe after a year or so of playing yeah get some good ones.
Whats the point of buying shit hot clubs if you can't use them properley and will more than likely ruin them?

if you have freeview or sky, check bid up and price drop for the peter allis sets. I got one, as did my missus and they are a good set of clubs with trolley, bag and accessories so its a great kit for beginners, i got mine for around 100 quid and its a full set.

the most important thing at the minute mate is to just practice your swing and actually making contact with the ball to make it go into the air (with irons obviously)
Once you've mastered that you're halfway there to be honest. Sounds silly but the majortity of golf shots are played like this, be it an approach shot or an 8 iron off the tea at a par 3, it'll set you up well.

I play as well Been playing for a couple of years now and actually got down to 5 last summer when I was playing loads and I actually shot a 67 around my home course (-4 under par!), but haven't been able to play as much as I would like recently, resulting in my handicap going up when I have played in competitions!
Best bit of advice is keep with it! Don't give up and of course keep practising hitting balls! Hit as many as you can which will create muscle memory and your will do it more consistantly!
With regard to what clubs for a begginer, a set from Donnay will do you fine to start with and if you really enjoy playing and you start to get better and you are prepared to spend a fair bit on clubs instead of your cars then Titleist, Callaway, Taylormade, Nike etc.
I started with a set of Macgregors and had them for a few years, then had a second hand set of Ping Zings 2 and then saved long and hard for some Callaway X-14's and then recently got custom fit for a set of Calloway X-16's I want to get some Titleist blades, but I can afford to buy them now
Sorry for the long reply, Happy Golfing!

i agree with jimmie, its all about patience and being calm, its all to easy to play badly then just give up, when i was back in 6th form i did golf as a sporting activity and was going round the local 9 hole course (35 par) around 30-35 every time. For beginners, just get yourself down to the driving range and try to relax, if your tense your swing will be shit. take a beer or 2, chill out and have a laugh. I havent played for a while now, but ill be playing again in the summer so a SE golfing day should be arranged, could be a great laugh and some friendly competition.

Excellent golf forums etc, very active.
If you don't want to buy crap and want something cheap to start with you can get a set second hand, Callaway Big Berthas are a great starter set, could get some older models for a couple of hundred on ebay. I have Callaway X-16's, they are fairly chuncky but they are like missile launchers when you catch them right.

i had a full set of calloways, cost me about £700 used them twice, and on return to the car on the 3rd trip i was beaten with my own clubs and they got nicked
didnt play for about 2 months until my insurance forked out for a new set, went along to my local club , just about to tee off, just as i was watching the guys in front walking down the fairway i only saw my old clubs being dragged along on a trolley!
the huge tit not only brought them back to play with at my club.but didnt bother changing my "tailor made" bag with happened to still have my name in the inside!
the police who promtly got there found this hilarious!!!
havent really been out since then!
started fishing alot more
