A member of the public would never need to go that fast though would they?

Very few have also had driving tuition to that level either.

I don't get what there is learn at that speed. If something pulls in front of you, you hit it. There's not much of a handling tendancy that I'd want to test. Its hardly handbraking a hire car in an empty car park to see what it feels like.

That sort of speed in the line of duty would be rare anyway, there would be a helicoper and cross force co-operation on a chase of that magnitude and certainly in Merseyside the speed restriction of 160mph on the choppers no longer applies, they can go far faster than that now and don't slow down for corners.

I don't think he'll go to jail like the guy on the bike did at that speed, but its no surprise its big news, there is probably pressure to make an example of him.

My mums cousins a traffic cop and he says that normally to do stuff like that they go out in like a prearranged group on training to test the speeds of 150mph+ and that they can't just go out when they feel like it to 'test' the capabilities. So maybe they will make an example of him.

an unmarked silver vectra full of cops came flying past me on the a449 (70 limit) at well over a ton with no lights on or nothing, i was tempted to take his plate and inform the station but i didnt think they'd do a lot

it was either that or speed up to his speed and if he pulled me and said "sir do you know how fast you were going" id say "no, but you should as you were doing the same 5 seconds ago when you passed me"

They train at high speeds but this is more to test reactions and nerve of the driver rather than capability of the car. You must also commentate - its bloody hard.

Testing the car is my arse. You can only find out where the limit of the car is by going over it, and I suspect that wasn't his intention.
