I'm not disputing that fact.
I do know what i'm talking about though and what the job prospects are.
The degree isn't a normal diddy computing science one that somewhere (like stow college ) else hands out.

I know full well my degree is worth sod all, but TBH I enjoy doing it.
It shows I've been educated to a certain level and that's the best that I can get out of it.
My tutors are on £26k for literally fanny around all time.
Private instrument tuition can get you £30/h if you're good. I don't know how much that works out at per year

no computing science is better off done at strathclyde. computing science is done by a lot of people. I doubt you'll get near 30k when you leave. I don't doubt that it's possible that you may get to that stage at some point but there are very few professions that will give you that with just 4 years of learning. PMSL you are a fool.

stow does NC's, HNC's and HND's. a degree is longer but don't think just because you have a degree your goign to make a lot of money. think how many people where in your class then think about the people that are in computing science degree's all round the country.

it used to be the case of get a degree and you'll get a good job on good salary, but now that many people have degrees they are worth less and more and more people are having to continue education onto further degree to guarentee work

A designated degree is 3 years. And from what i've heard employers would rather have a 3 year designated from glasgow than an honours from most places.
I know tehre is every possibility you could get a degree in anything and end up in McDonalds. £30k a year from the degree i'm doing is very possible. I'm doing it, i've done the research, so I don't really care what i'm being told on here.
Vibrio, there is something like a 50% drop out rate from 1st to 2nd year in computing, then more drop out before 3rd. Its in the top 3 most difficult in the uni afaik, so I have quite an advantage over the idiots sitting in technical colleges rebadged as uni's.

My bad on the eng - scot differnce. One of the lads here went from junior programmer to seinor developer in 4 years.
But it is very rare.

Average starting salary for graduates is approx 22k IIRC. Starting salaries dont give a good indication of the economic benefits of doing a degree anyhow, its when you have a few years experience and start applying for more senior positions that employers like degrees and further study much as a MA, MSC, MBA etc.
Most larger companies offer graduate schemes that you cannot get into without a degree, which shows that qualifications are still valued by employers. Stastically graduates earn more than non graduates, thats a fact that is pointless debating.

Vibrio I disagree -- I know plenty of analysts on £30k plus with a simple computer science degree.
If you want good money in IT, come work for an investment bank...
