i did Graphics GCSE (Grade B) Graphics A-Level (Grade B, 2 marks off A :mad then went and did a Foundation in Art and Design specialising in Visual Communications for a year and passed that. I finished that course last June, have i found a job in Graphic Design? HELL NO
to be honest if your not sure u wana do Graphics, then dont bother wasting your time. Im in a situation where its the only thing im interested in doing as a job, but its so hard 2 find anywhere, even as a junior position. Ive sent out around 50 CVs and only had 1 interview out of it!! At the interview i was told i was too much of a Designer (they were looking for someone with an Editorial Layout design background)
Its so fustrating for me, because its all i wana do

foundation level isn't high enough for industry to take you seriously. you'll need more under your belt to show that you're dedicated to design. unless you can blag it big time

uni is the best bet for interviews.
you'll get connections from the industry by either you going to them on Uni trips, or they come to you for talks/lectures, almost like scouting for talent.
portfolio + blag = interview = job

this is a letter i got sent after this magazine interview:
"You had an impressive portfolio, however, my advice would certainly be to look towards a more creative area within the design industry where you wont be limited by the constraints youd find with magazine design. If you can afford to do so, i would suggest you be quite selective about your first job as you will almost certainly find that this well set a prcerdent for you substequent career path. Its worth taking the time now to consider carefully the sort of environment and day to day work you think would suit you and if possible get as much work experience as you can - these no better way of finding out whether something is right for you (or not) without it tying you into something you may find fustrating or boring.
I would like to wish you every successs for the future - you had an excellent attitude, im sure youll do well."
was nice of her to send me that really, helped me out a bit.

Im total with you "Dave 17" on this one sounds like where on the same track. and trust me its all the truth that spoken.
Bottom line is that it sounds like "Richard Lee" is very lucky and at the right place at the right time.
But im sure he did put quiet a bit of hard work in ,,but question is how much and how long ,,,,probly a couple of loans and debts to deal with because of this and a risk of a fair few years by the sounds of it.
All for the gold prize to become the head of the senior trainee miniuem wage postion.
