I live on a farm with Richies family, which his dad owns.
Twice now people have been walking along the canal (not through our land, just runs alongside one of our fields) with their dogs (not on leads) and their dogs have come onto our land and attack some of our livestock (well ... ducks) the last time the duck had to be put down, this time Richies mum has just taken it to the vets.
Am i right in thinking ... i could shoot the dog if its attacking our animals, as we live on private land, and the dog would be trespassing?
as far as I know you can't in england however the dog by law has to be on a lead. in scotland you can shoot em dead no problem lol

Speak to the dogs owners, and tell them to put the dogs on a lead or they will be shot when they come on your land.
Or just wait in a bush for a while until the dogs come back and beat them with a large pole.
Or get rid of the ducks and don't worry about it

The shouldnt be on our land anyway ... its private land and the only entrance is the gate at the top, and is very clear that its not a public footway

no because there are so many pikey fuckers in the area that they keep using tin snips/wire cutters to cut through the fences. And council wont let us put an electric fence on our land because of the canal

Its not the dogs fault its just instint, and its obviously not the ducks fault so its a shame u cant have a pop at the owner, just with a bb gun mind, not a riffle

Yeh its the owners fault for not keeping their dogs on a lead, most people round here know us and know we have livestock and are wary of it.
I understand its instinct, but tbh i dont care when they are ripping apart our animals.
If there is a next time then we will probably shoot the dog and have a go at the owner.
The cost of putting the duck down isnt cheap, so maybe the owner of the dog should coff up the cost of his dogs actions and take some responcibility

absolutely, of course they should pay, i certainly would if it happened with our dog, fortunately im not stoopid enough to let the dog run round livestock without a lead, but some people obviously are

I am pretty sure that ducks are not classed as live stock. Just buy one sheep and put it there. Its wales anyway, your allow to shot it then for sheep worriyng.
You cqan buy a sheep for less then £50

You have to watch there isnt public access on the canal you might own the land but they could still be allowed to use it.

Im fucked off because the guys whos dog attacked our animals today, just took his dog and walked off, without disciplining (sp) the dog.
The last time it happened (christmas eve) the guy gave his dog a good kicking.
We've put signs up, and the next time it happens i will have no problem in shooting the dog.
Maybe you should have the ducks penned in so dogs cant get to them
Do you even know how to use a shot gun You'll probably end up taking out the duck...or the dog owner
We dont have a shot gun, just air guns and a rifel, and yes i can use them, and have used them in the past.
I used the L98A1 rifel which is similar to the ones used out in Iraq -

But minus the sight
that nothing like they use in iraq

if it was ally's duck that was trying to eat the dog then I'm sure the dogs owner would have no issues about shooting the duck...
