I have mine mounted on a bracket so that the bottom half of the registration plate sits below the bottom of the bumper, and the top half of it sits just above the bottom of the bumper. I don't have a light for it at the moment but I am getting to work on re-positioning the original light so that its legal on wednesday... I don't think it will look that good but I have to do it to make it legal, and I dont want a recess in the bumper...
Fear: I like what beardy has done where he has it at the top of the window as a sticker. You could quite easily fit a light into the underneath of the spoiler so it becomes leagl and illuminated... that is my second option on mine.
