IMO the rallye is just a stripped out GTi with less spec

And different engine, so its not a GTi then?

1's 1.6-8v and others 1.6-16v - thats like saying VTR & VTS arnt both paxo's............

Insurance isn't a problem

I like both but thought GTi might beout of my price range....got around 3k to spend. The car will stay more or less standard so "stripped rally slag" won't be an option

I like both so maybe some interior pics and some examples of both for sale in my price range might sway me one way or the other

So Mr Mark, how much should I be paying be a mint S2 with 50k on clock? Or should I get a GTi? Would I get a nice black or white GTi for around 3k? Anyone got any nice pics or examples for sale at around my budget?

I used to have a mint white s2 rallye on white compomotive MO`s. Sold it for 3.5k with 60k on the clock. I would have to go with the decision that 3k will get you a below par one luke. in all honesty you would get a better condition gti for that. Rarity of rallye and general cherishing by owners keeps the prices high. Every now and then you`ll see one where the owner doesnt know what it is.

basicly the Rallye is an icon.

there was only 500 S2's sold in the UK and about 450 are left (poss more).
the interior is basic, cos of the car, its supposed to be light to go fast

The 106 Rallye's are also a major head turner in std form.

So their's no need to tart it up (spoil it) with body kits & 17" alloys.

All the info you need and the friendliest forum on the net can be found at www.106rallye.co.uk.
