it attracts more folk to start with as the think they are getting a mega cheap car.... they then slowly increase there bids etc.... hopefully they get carried away

No worries though as you have a reserve!

I always start a reserve auction mega cheap...

no they dont, i found out the hard way, some knob from singapore bit some silly amount when my corsa was on there. ebay removed him as a user about 20 minutes after my auction ended, it cost me £20 and they wouldnt refund me.

you could always get somebody to bid against the current bidder to increase the price

I always start everything at 99p with no reserve, gets the most interest. I had 60 watchers on a mates crosser because it was really cheap for ages. Ended up at market price though, eBay is too busy for it not to.
