Have you had any ulcer drugs (ranitidine, omeprazole, anything like that?). It's very rare that they actually perform surgery on ulcers - usually just give drugs to help them get better on their own.

But yes, endoscopy is sometimes used for diagnosis so they can be sure that it is an ulcer and not something more serious - especially if there has already been a bleed.

i havent taken the volterol in a couple of days since the pain set in, and my dad said that about ulcers, but the doctor said that if it it the burst ulcer, they'll have no choice but to operate straight away because of the amount of pain im in

I was sitting here thinking - ahhh I'd hate that, then I read that bit about ripping rib cage open (which I guess they'd have to - to get access) and then I thought 'Oh... yes valid point, I think I would prefere this telescope thing'

Personally whenever I've had a operation I like to be well and truely out cold
