theres a kit that floats about that has a 480 odd brake cossie engine in, remember reading an article about it a few months back. The bloke had tested it to 176 and didnt have the balls to go further I remember it saying that his 0-60 times were abit cack as he couldnt launch properly without it leaving an eleven on the track - but he managed 3.3secs (something like that).

is that the one your thinking of steve?

visible man,
excuse me,
for one my dad builds kit cars for a living, so much so that he has built robin hood for a customer and it was awful, you just have to look at how the thing is made and qualoty of the kit, but you get what you pay for.
The dax we used to have used to run rings around all sorts of westfields, on the track due to the anti camber kit and the geometry of the car. I never said westfields are crap i just rate dax better than them for the engineering on them.
And who said anyhting about bashign the cars about, any car with a rollcage will withstand bashing about!

secondly im at university studying motorsport and i know whats needed to make a good handling car and fast car, plus with dads experience i feel i know a fair bit about the subject.
So dont go calling me a stuck up a toffy which i am not, i was just expressing my opinions on the robin hood and the poor design of the chassis!
And thirdly ot wasnt dads kit car on the m1 at 150 it was the owner of dax cars gary showing me what it was capable of!!

Just you wait till you see our dax when its finished i can guarantee its the first one ever done in the uk as far as we know!

Sumone I know was doing 150 the other day with me in the car I said 'your going over double the speed limit' he said ' that's prison fast' norty boy

Then we turned off the m53 where this occured and went on the welsh road which is just a straight country lane (national speed limit) anyways he botted his ATR 1st,2nd,3rd limiter, 4th 120 mph over what can only be described as a mini hump backed bridge, we had all four wheels off the floor PMSL was sketchy especially as there is a hotel car park about another 50 yards past it

to fair mate, your not doing anything special with your dax - all your doing is wacking a light high reving engine in something that weighs as much as a can of beans Its the whole point of kits - although majority of people limit the top speed and go for acceleration, as they know they would get "flat-packed" if they loose control at 120+. Therefore i dont understand why this "gary" was blasting it around at 150, especially on the M1 If you got splattered about, it would be us tax payers that would pay to get your body scrapped from the deck
Hence why you should save it for the track - that way my tax isnt wasted

edit - before anyone says that doing over a tonne will equal you being splattered about the road, well yes and no. You certainly have more chance of living in a car designed to do serious speeds. Unlike a kit, which isnt designed to be ragged down motorways are stupid speeds Hence why track days were invented

I thought the argument was that the car can do 180mph and he was only doing 145. so he was effectly at only 80% top speed, so had 20% left, and it was well with in manufatures safety margins (Got to have an awesome lawyer mind)
So unless you happy to drive somethign with a offically silly top end the police will rape you.
However that can't go past 140mph

for starters there is no bike engine going in our dax, they are unreliable and have to be driven flat out all the time
you will see thats why i said it hasnt been done before, were having our own bellhousings cast and most of it custom made.

secondly it was 7am on a sunday morning, the cossies dax does that speed in a matter of seconds, he was simply demonstrating the speed of the thing to me!

Makes me laugh all these people that go on about speeding, unless you stick to every 30, 40 and 70 limit stop complaining.
If you get caught its your own fault, just make sure you dont get caught.
