It was nothing to do with Blair, there was nothing he could have done. The hostages they wanted to have released were under U.S. control, not G.B. The hostage takers killed the americans, and then tried to split the co-alition by keeping the english guy alive.
They got the publicity they wanted, made a government, a whole country talk about them, and in the end Bigley wasn't needed any more, hence the reason he's now been murdered. Sick as it is.
As someone said before, if we gave in, then every sick fuck out there would start kidnapping

Please dont stereotype all muslims as murderers. My dad is muslim and he thinks the terrorists are complete scum and shouldnt be killed but imprisoned for life cos they aint afraid of death as said above, they think it makes them heros. we dont stereotype all Irish people as terrorists, like the IRA and people seem to forget about dunblain and all the other killings they took responsibility for.

I think very bad things are gonna happen!
I don't think the English public will allow the Government to not do anything. And I think that many english white people will now start attacking Muslims and mosques and the sort.
and as for the US, when did they step in and try to help us (i.e. Ken Bigley) we always end up helping everyone else out and just get shit on in return!
The terroist group that england hated most was Sinn Fein and the IRA, and their the only other country to come and try to help and we've had a armed persence in their country for years!

its not the governments fault.
In a sense it just helps to prove that the people doing this are animals and will hopefully open the eyes of many many people across the world.
It also highlights the exact reason why we should never negotiate with terrorists it would just make it 1,000,000 times worse than it already is.

i dont know why everyone is blaming the government. they tried everything they could to secure the release of him. The only thing they could have done other than what they did is by giving into the terrorists, which was just not an option.They certainly didnt just stand by and watch it happen, and do you really think that any amount of money would have been accepted by the bigley family if they had felt that the government hadnt done enough.

The two Americans he was kidnapped with that suffered the same fate as him didn't really get a lot of "publicity" in the UK as Bigley did. It was only because he was British that he's had so much media attention.
As for people stereotyping all muslims as terrorists or whatever, this is just pure ignorance on these people's part. Yes, some muslims in this world are terrorists, but people seem to be forgetting others such as Jews, Christians, etc. are also terrorists - just not all go to the extremes such as the group that have kidnapped the two Amercians and the British guy.
I'm not defending terrorists - if they like anyone in this world have commited a crime, then they should suffer the consequences of their actions. Killing people does not make them heros - it makes them murderers, and they are just as ignorant as the people that think all Muslims are terrorists etc. in my opinion.

So much crap in this thread, mostly coming from Ally. Some very disturbing comments IMO. There was nothing ayone could have done to save his life. Many who actually knew the situation better than some english bird reckoned that he was planned to be killed from day one, knowing that british and american governments would not give in to ransom demands. Its just a way to split public opinion so silly minded people run around saying "KILL BLAIR KILL BLAIR HES A PIG" when he did the correct thing of trying to resolve the problem through communication, rather than heavy-handedness which could have caused an uproar amongst seperatists and led to a load of car bombs killing loads of innocents.
