As I stated I do not think a std GSI could beat a std SRI 1.8...no chance...no even on bends etc...

1.6 16v Corsa B GSi could not get close to a 1.8 16v Corsa C SRi

The engine in the Astra G SXi 1.8 16v beats GSi's so in the Corsa it would be even quicker

Just seen a 51 plate 1.8 SRi for £4995 on auto trader. Not a bad price but then this is the model that came with 15" SXi alloys, so it doesn't look all that nice really - exactly like a SXi

I'm not surprised that they didn't really take off when they first came out - the SRi looked almost exatly the same as the crappy standard models. Bit of an insult to the SRi bage.

I'm glad that Vauxhall have made the facelift version look a bit sportier so i doesn't just look like an SXi.

I want one now, but can't afford it - I'm skint

Yep I have a black 04 1.8, it's fairly quick, handles o.k and can be a little hairy in the wet but adds to the fun. It's fun hassling loads of bigger cars, golfs, focus etc... the price aint too bad. I looked around for new cars around the 12k mark and not much comes close performance and specs wise without moving up to the CTR, Astra Gsi price bracket etc...

Personally I wouldn't get another renault if you gave me it for free. After both me and g/f clio troubles, one very serious and potentialy fatal fault that was simply ignored. They have lost customers for life. Besides the 172 was about 15,500 when I was looking around.

not a bad car. it aint a rocket but its quite competent. id have to say that their strength is in day to day driving. very flexible in power delivery meaning it can be driven quickly without havin to go nuts with the gearshift. also surprisingly economical.

i chose 1.8 coz the only other model available here is a 1.4

I like them... performance isnt blistering but over all a nice looking car.

With a few wee perfomance mods you could be looking at 160bhp +

With a dbilas inlet manifold, some cams and a sofware regal are claiming a 45bhp increase, but the price tag for that is high a 2k.
