You are trying to fly by hand, you should be flying in with CAT2/3 which is for ILS approaches, depending on airport. I havent been able to use FS2004 for ages, since my computer is still travelling over here from the uk by ship. But i have a setup installed which is as real as it can get. Real AI traffic with real aircraft and routes, complex real-like airports and aircraft with the most accurate model/sounds/panel available. Project Airbus is who i am part of, and we create fully realistic aircraft.

Havent been around for about a year though due to a server hack incident, but we are due to release V2 of our award winning A320, as well as the rest of the airbus family in the future. Also, we are accredited with making the huge russian freighters like the IL225 mriya.

Also, ATC will give you course directions to either fly straight in or to stay in holding pattern until such time that you are ready to approach onto left/right downwind then onto final.

the autopilot will normally take over for landing when you are on approach when the outer marker light flashes on (blue) and you have selected the back course switch on the A/P. The A320 v1 is very good with a powerful pc. is very resource hungry due to detail. also look at www.projectai.com then look at official files. Will install real airlines with their flight routes all over the world.

if u want autopilot all the way to the ground use CAT III approach, CAT II must be tripped out by 100 Feet so u'll have to do the last 100 feet yourself, assuming the game is totally realsitic which it seems to be with everything else from what i read on here but never actually played it myself! LOL

i mentioned CATII just in case he was landing at an airfield which wasnt CATIII certified. Black corsa, FS2004 is totally realistic in every way. thats why a lot of flying schools and air forces use it to certain extent for ground based training.

SOunds good didnt think it would go as far as that to be realistic, thats why i didnt think they'd bother about CAT II and III certifiaction etc! LOL sounds good!

This game I would have thrown out of the window by now.

Are there any planes with machine gun turrets or nuclear weapons onboard?
