Cumbria is a good place for this IMO. Norfolk is like driving round a football pitch! There are some great driving roads in cumbria especially the dual carriageway between Keswick & Cockermouth, bit like a roller coaster!

Absolutely - it'll be even better than it would have been first time around - even the gearbox is working now

I'll be up for this. Can I suggest that the route is mapped properly and we have a checkpoint at either end to check if you've been naughty

Basically better off heading east of the M6, into the Cumbrian Pennines rather than west in to the lakes. A very good route would be meet at Kendal/A685 over to Brough/B6276 to Middleton/B6277 to Alston (great road this - 23 miles across high Pennines, not a single house en route)/A686 over Hartside to Penrith (1,900ft; loads of hairpin bends)/ A6 back to Kendal (very very fast road)

There's the Angel in Alston - humongous bar meals for a fiver, or the Shepherds Inn in Melmerby for summit more upmarket, plus squillions of other country pubs en route. And I make a stonking brew, but this will depend on the numbers attending
