Most teams won't have spares, I imagine.

Christ, the teams don't even have spares on race days sometimes.

Mate just said to me ''lewis should've steered away from the wall or braked''

I'd like to see him do the same when a front wing goes under his front wheels (assuming thats what happened).

Indeed, they're not wheel to wheel racing so it's really freak accidents which would cause the loss of a wing (admittedly, that's two years in a row now ).

This wing is probably going to change a dozen times between now and Aus, so having spares sat ready for each iteration isn't something that they've got time for - not to mention the sheer cost.

That's what I'm reading. You become a passenger when that happens, nothing you can do.

Caterham... Dear god.

Hamilton crash vid - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8gZ5yRtxLJw

Is it me or does it sound like they're retarding the engine during down shifts? Sounds very similar to Renault engines a few years back (ie - that awful graunching noise).

Certainly not a good looking car but i like it for being different, ie - it's not just cock-nosed rather the 'cock' supports something
Front wing end plates look a bit special

Only a small change but i see Nico Rosberg has got a black helmet now, which will definitely help distinguish between him and Lewis. Was a nightmare that last season

Thank god for that.

Really hoping sky put an offer on the sports package, seeing as though they fucked me over on the hd stuff. Can't bear to watch just the 9 races on BBC.

Going to be interesting when they lose the CL in a season or two.... Need to do something decent or they will be losing me as a customer!

I'm still not convinced; (from the limited videos that are around) the sound is a lot thinner and duller than the V8's and the spool down is comical, sounds like it's from the Back to the Future DeLorean http://youtu.be/UKr3YMvMtAY?t=13s

Either way, i still know what i prefer - https://www.dropbox.com/s/xuws2u76xs9elgt/engines.wav (comparison of Merc engines from testing).

On another note, the RBR is clearly the best looking car out of the lot; back end is stupidly tidy compared to others - http://i.imgur.com/PoZtRyl.jpg

The Force India looked so good from the side but that front end is beyond a joke!

I think the sound is a bit of a grower, it doesn't sound bad, just lacks the top end scream we've been used to with F1.

He's certainly had something done! Looks similar to whatever Ashley Cole has had.

Are they allowed to run anti-lag? That's what it sounds like under braking/off throttle anyways. Sounds very like the VW Polo WRC car

Their anti lag is effectively provided by the leccy motor I believe, so not like the WRC implementation of it.

Yup, the motor-generator attached to the compressor shaft (@100K RPM) not only recovers energy but also spools the turbo to prevent turbo lag.

Ted's Notebook is up, seems pretty guff compared to his usual - http://www1.skysports.com/watch/video/sports/f1/9139015/1st-test-jerez-day-1-ted%E2%80%99s-notebook.

Ted made an interesting point about the noise level of the engines and how quiet they are (apparently quieter than GP2) in comparison to yesteryear engines. Maybe cars at full-beans will be better but it'll be a shame if that is what we'll end up with as ear splitting noise is one of the reasons people go see Formula 1

The Ferrari also sound like a glorified hoover during braking
