Because it doesn't need lots of memory to run billions of functions you don't need in the background. It's efficient.

And the s2 has a dual core 1.2ghz CPU but ipad2 is faster at actually doing things. Not just about clock speed. I have a celeron that clocked to 4ghz that was shit

Wow, that's a big increase over the iPhone 4, iPad 2 is 8x faster?

That's only bench marking the GPU, PowerVR SGX 543, which is pretty impressive even for a dual-core GPU (the A4 used in the iPhone 4/iPad had the single cored 535).

Be interesting to see bench marking of the CPUs - ie: ARM A8 (as used in Apple's A4/iPhone 4/iPad) vs A9 (Apple A5 iPad 2) - even though the A9 is dual-cored i imagine the performance increase isn't much off the A8.

Agree Dom, i'd be surprised if the iPhone 5 gets the full fat a% though, and not an underclocked one, for power and heat reasons obviously. I think i'm right in saying the iPad's A4 is around 30% more powerful than the iPhone 4's.

Are the A4's not clocked the same in the iPad and iPhone 4? Doesn't surprise me if they underclock in the phone (or overclock in the iPad - which ever way you want to look at it), as you say heat is the usual reason but 30% seem a far amount to underclock it by. Be interesting to see how much heat is kicked out in a iPhone 4 if it's overclocked though (heard it's possible once iOS has been jailbroken).

I think heat seems to be the major problem with the A5 in the iPhone 4 case. They will no doubt put it in and then underclock it to not far off the the A4.

4S...

I've ended my 4 on eBay, if the 4S looks the same I'm not bothered about upgrading.

Only happy to pay an extra £100 if its redesigned...and has an LED

EDIT: That one above looks like one of the original white iPhone 4 that didn't work, or a conversion as it has the old proximity sensor.

Do you get any option as to whether the battery etc. goes inside the case? Don't fancy carrying it round like shown in the photo

Fanboy!

Depending on prices I might do, can probably punt my 4 to give me the money easily to upgrade. If they do bigger than a 32gb then I will upgrade as my 32gb only has 36mb left on it
