this is correct, updating Windows operating systems to the latest is a gay process normally riddled with problems. Best off to format the machine and install a fresh copy of XP onto it, you will also need a CDkey for windows xp. Just stay with ME or go to 98 much better then XP, remember to keep uptodate with updates !

xp is by far better than 98 and better than 2k for home computing, 2k should stay to networks

Sorry, I've found win98 to be winner when it comes to the aimed at home users series. I run Windows2k on 4 of my machines at home, and the rest run freebsd. :<

@ this thread - you unhelpful sods
Kerry - yes you can use the cd to upgrade your machine to XP, however...
1 - It would be better ideally to do a clean installation, but if you're not too happy about doing that, an upgrade will suffice
2 - Product Activation - Windows XP forces every instalaltion to be activated with Microsoft - if the cd you're using is legit, then that product key will have already been used, hence once you've upgraded, you wont be able to activate it If it's a didgy Windows XP cd, it's probably got a cracked product key So you'll be larfing.
