Some absolutely useless halfwitt has crashed into my new car during the night and driven off, my mum was woken by a massive bang and the neighbors rang the police, the cars an absolute state and without a doubt is a write off. Only thing is, im third party fire and theft, because they did a runner im screwed, aren't i?

they will probably go knocking on doors asking the neighbours but there is nothing to stop you doing that too. don't suppose your house is on a cul-de-sac is it?

Isn't there a 'pot' that insurance companies pay into so you can claim the money for that if they don't catch the other driver.

What a load of shit.

But really, can't you just buy a new bumper and hammer the rear quarter back into shape? It doesn't look like you particularly care about the car so that's what I'd probably do. I don't see the point on having a claim on insurance for that. Worst bit is the rear quarter.

As it is in those pics I would say so. With a new bumper, I would say it's fine. Just make sure you can get that petrol cap open!

Rip the peices off that are hanging off and tape up any sharp edges should be ok, if you get pulled over just say your going to get a new bumper from the scrappys.

Judging by the state of the allignment of your petrol cap, I would say that whole rear quater is pretty goosed, can't see them wanting to repair that. Does the drivers door open and close no bother?

That's not the case though, whether it can be fixed or not isnt the issue, it's whether the insurance company think it will be worth it cost wise against the value of the car, plus a new bumper, any spraying and man hours.

Went down a country lane earlier and found the vehicle that hit me, was a red M reg astravan. Is damaged worse than my car, have already told the police and it hasn't been reported stolen, they got it stuck trying to get away in a field

Get any pics of it? You find it that far away from your house?

Shame about the damage! Hope you get it all sorted!
