My mate wants a 1.6, But he wants the fastest 1.6 lol
He is 18 and with one year no claim bonus.
Hes budget is £2,500
Hes seen a -
1996 HONDA CIVIC 1.6i VTi 4dr Saloon
Fuel consumption (urban) 25.7 mpg
Fuel consumption (extra urban) 40.9 mpg
Fuel consumption (combined) 30.4 mpg
0 - 62 mph 8.1 seconds
Top speed 134 mph
Cylinders 4
Valves 16 v
Engine power 160 bhp
I've told him to get a corsa b sport or a gsi if he can find one but hes having none of it
What do you all recommend ?

Civic VTi (but it'll be a moon miler for that budget)
106 GTi (again, won't be easy finding a nice one for that budget)
Saxo VTS (Will easily find a good one, with money to spare for a 4-2-1 manifold, decat system and enclosed induction kit for 140ish bhp).

Mazda MX5? These can be pretty quick?
I'd probably look at 106 GTi's/Saxo VTR's myself

I think Saxo's look good as is with lowering.
1.6 RSi won't get near it.
MX5 either, BUT it will be great fun.

Will get a half decent Vti for that. Sold mine for £1500 did have 147k but am sure another grand on your budget an you could get a 100k one. There not that fast though.

An early VTR has 90bhp. Which is slow anyway. The VTS on the other hand is a nippy motor.

For £2500 you can get a VTS with as little as 25,000 these days

just hold tight for a nice civic to come up, preferably an import SIR as they are lower miles, faster and can be much the same price. Check out sky insurance for decent deals on imports

Only an 8v, as said though you could get a VTS/GTI but if it were my money I'd be buying a ph1 172 or a 16v XSI.

A few months ago you could get an 03 Vts for sub £1500. Cams £280. Supersprint System £250. Induction kit £100. Standalone ECU £600. That would be a 160bhp b road rocket.

Tell your mate to get some insurance quotes for the different cars suggested. I'd imagine that at age 18 that will be the determining factor

Insurance on a Vti Civic at 18 is a killer.
