Evo 1 or 2 maybe but I wouldn't bother, I also wouldn't buy a scoob for so little but then again there is the odd good example out there for that sort of cash, I'd be looking at a 172 for that money.

You'd probably get a GT-S for 3k but I wouldn't bother with them either What arent you fond of on the Clio, the looks? drive one before you rule them out (if you haven't allready ) you'll be pleasantly suprised.

Why? My friend bought an Evo2 RS for £3k. 4WD and 290bhp, I don't know of any other car under £3k that can touch it.

How old are you? What sort of insurance?

Under 20 then something like a Clio 172

Over 20 then something interesting:
MR2 Turbo
E36 328 Sport / 3.0 M3 (Would be a rough one at this price)
Vectra GSI (2.5 V6)

Age doesn't really matter to me to be totally honest, know of many P reg's that are in better condition than 51 plates, if the owner doesn't care about their car then it's bound to end up like shit. Not long had my 1.6 sport but I'm looking for something a little better in a few months, just undecided what to opt for..

either get something older and faster, but be prepared to fork out replacing old/worn parts.

or get something new and slower, but more reliable

For £3k you'll only get a standard one. Meaning, slow, boring and dull to drive.
