Bought some clay the other day, comes in a liquid in a bottle. I thought you just apply it to your car like you apply wax, with a cloth. But I hear you need a clay bar.

Can I just apply it with a cloth?

Or not?

You have bought clay lubricator, you need to go and buy a clay bar.

Are you honestly a real person? I cannot believe someone can be this utterly moronic?

So you bought a clay lubricator/final touch for what reason?

You could if you wanted wash the car, then use the born slippy to aid drying the car, but I suspect you don't have a MF drying towel do you?

1. How do you clay a car

1. Do you apply the wax/polish with a Micro Fibre cloth and buff off with a Micro Fibre cloth

2. When applying the polish do you leave it for about half hour then buff off

Be sure to drop the clay bar on a stony ground first to loosen its molecular structure up a bit.

1 - Warm the clay bar in your hands, rolling it around until it feels plyable. Spray a small amount of lubricator on the surface of the car, then without applying pressure run the clay bar along the surface of the paint. Dont press to hard and dont scrub with it otherwise you will remove the paintwork

1 (again) - You can apply polish with a MF, however i have found depending on what polish you are using other cloths can give better results. If you go to Halfords or similar you can get applicator sponges, i find these work really well with both polish and wax. A Sheepswool Mitt is very good at removing the polish fromt he car.

2 - You leave the polish to haze, this is normally around 4 or 5 minutes max. Depending on how thick you put the polish on, the longer it'll take to haze. Don't overcook it as it'll mark the body work. Do one panel at a time, this way you have full concentration on what your doing. Do not polish the car if the paintwork is warm or your in direct sunlight.

3 - All waxes vary. I leave mine around 20 minutes, however the bottle will ussually give a good amount of time to leave it. Apply a thin coat first, the after the curing period (time from when you take the wax off till you apply a second layer) leave at least 4 hour. You can then apply a second thin coat.

Remember, Wash, Rinse, Clay Bar, Rinse, Polish, Wax, Wax

I'd recommend you get some Auto Glym Extra Gloss Protection and use this on top of the second layer of wax.

Apply wax, leave however long bottle says, take off. Leave for 4 hours to cure. Re-apply a then layer, leave, remove.

Then like i said, AG EGP on top of that, very very very very thin layer with a household duster or fine Microfibre cloth will make the car shine

You dont leave the clay, work small areas yes.

So for instance, half the bonnet, use the lubricator to make sure the clay travels smoothly and does not stick. Then run along the bonnet, Up and down to start and just make sure you touch the whole bonnet, you will feel a difference as you remove the shit from the surface. When your happy with how it feels to the touch, move on. Always roll the clay in your hand to move the contaminents into the middle so you have clean clay on the car.

If you drop the bar its game over, dont risk anything.

You don't actually apply clay to the car, you aren't making a model candle.

You use the clay to pick up fallout, tar all objects that get imbedded in your paint work prior to polishing and waxing, no point putting polish on a car that is covered in crap you will just drag that crap around your paintwork and scratch it.
