well, i am shortly letting the corsa go. i've just lost the spark for it, and am spending too much on it when i shouldnt. am intending to get a place next year so i need something more practical, a bit different/special and that im not so inclined to spend money on in stupid places.
I have agree'd a swap for a Cav GSi. Pretty rare to find decent one knocking about now, but i have done. Is in Newcastle, and i'm going up to get it on the 7th November. got a few plans for it...and am already pricing up some bilsteins. v6 308mm's are pretty much top of the pecking order. i just want to make it handle like it can...and will be getting money spent in the right places.
here's a few photos from the pistonheads ad:

so yea, as you can see...quite a tidy car!
am really looking forward to getting it, and although i will be sad to see the corsa go, i do need something different now i think, and these are getting a bit rare now. i can keep it tidy and it will get my loving care underneath too, as the corsa did.
opinions welcome

Nice choice of car there mate, so nice infact I found myself driving that very one. Used to be my mates car and I nearly bought it but funds were abit low. Really do like Cavalier Gsi's and I enjoyed that one for the two weeks I had it. Hope to see it again and are you doing a project thread about it?

i dont mind getting a bit of welding done, and in fact was gonna get strengthening plates put in anyways in various places. but he hasnt sent me any pics of the underside yet...
thats my only concern, but he says its in good condition...

well plans are:
Bilstein B8 kit - already got one priced and am just awaiting the car and sale of my 8v head.
Set of decent springs, hopefully eibach, but i shall see...seems to be hard to get parts for tbh!
ARB's, front and back.
Chassis welded with secondary plates in torsional areas. full strip back of original underseal and re-done with new waxoyl.
Set of 17" pro race's - either 1.2 or 3's...that decision will be made nearer time.
inside:
Change steering wheel, as i know i wont like the one on there...especially if its an airbag jobby.
Decent seats - may get another set of RST recaros, but i will see what i can find.
4 point harnesses - a must in my cars...i hate seatbelts.
Engine will be getting service and general check over. apparently the timing gear was done at 96k, but i cant be sure...so i may just get a timing kit and waterpump and do that. will be well worth it!
I know they can handle...and i want it to do so, that is my primary aim. engine mods may come later...but theres not much i can do for it. K&N panel, powercap, bigger injectors and eventually an ashley manifold and decent exhaust.

loos mint that. Cavs are great but id be inclined to change the wheels.
Also if your primary aim is handling avoid V6 brakes as they weigh about 4tonnes so will had to the unsprung weigt and destroy the cars turn in.

I think it would look better with the standard steeringwheel also rather than an aftermarket one

i don't understand why you say you're getting rid of the corsa because you're spending too much money on it, yet you're going to spend a lot of money on the cav too?
it's nice but seems a bit pointless really.

Plans sound Buddy.
But IMO i would get the Pr Race 1.2's & Just leave the seats alone. This is just my input though it's your car and stuff so it's totally upto you.

i wasnt gonna strip it out. the harnesses can go in without having to get everything out! and if the seats are fatman seats and dont hold me...then i wont be confortable, so i may end up finding a set of decent seats to put in. i dont intend to strip it, and the harnesses will be the OMP quick release ones so they can be taken out if people are in the car and need to go behind me. the steering wheel...if its the same one as was in the corsa originally...i hate them. it will be getting a subtle aftermarket one, or i'll maybe see if there is a decent vauxhall one that doesnt have an airbag in, as thats the main thing i dont want!
i am only going to be doing a few things to it to make it what i want...and thats it. i like to know that the suspension and brakes are spot on and can cope with anything i throw at them...and that counts for the road too. the corsa has got me out of trouble with badgers pulling out etc a few times because the brakes are good or its responses were good. i just want quality stuff, is that so bad?
thanks for the comments though. when i get it back i will get some decent photos and make some decisions.

I'd hardly say that V6 brakes would detroy the turn in if they're only about (guess off the top of my head) at most twice as heavy as 2.0's, but in reality probably nowhere near as heavy as that even. I didn't notice the difference on the corsa when I swapped the 2.0's for the V6's.
Lovely big motor chrex, you weren't tempted to look for a turbo? What kind of difference in price is it between these and them?

They weigh a tonne. I had them on my corsa and did more to destroy my handling than 17" wheels and falken 451s.
If you want it to handle, reduce unsprung weight. It doesnt matter if they are a bit heavier, they are still heavier. Plus i doubt they will offer much more braking power over the standard ones tbh.
Save the cash and save up for some wilwoods or reylands....
Pro race 1.2s are light so will improve things
