what are these like to live with? service intervals etc? any common problems with the 110/115/130 stuff? heard bad things about the cams in the 150's?

toying with the idea of borrowing a wedge to get a decent golf gt tdi.

Every 10k, consumables are quite expensive.

Common problems are boost pipes popping off and a few electrical niggles.

Vag boys do have rose tinted specs but the engines are awesome tbh.

130 PD is the one to go for as has been said.

When you tune them and get 230bhp and 380 lb/ft, they really shift!

230 doesnt compare when you have 350+

il probably buy it, put some good suspension on, maintain it, remap it and replace the clutch to cope with the remap. 130 seems to be a winner. just need to find one now.

But when it does 0-60 in 5secs, does high 13sec 1/4's, they can beat a lot of petrol cars running much higher bhp

I've had mine 2 years, have put 50k on it and have tuned it up to 215bhp & 360lb's ft. I use it daily (112 round trip to work) and the car has done multiple trackdays & 1/4miles. I change the oil every 5k (£30 a time) always let it warm up (70 degrees oil temp before full throttle) and cool down.

Touch wood... Never had a problem with it. Its extremely versitile for a diesel, rev's cleanly doesn't use any oil or water (its just approaching 100k), is great to drive and still returns 50mpg but matchs a VXR Astra in a straightline.

Only issue I get is high oil temps when on track (130 degree's).

Cambelt & water pump change (at 60k) cost me £250, apart from that i've done all the servicing myself.

Quite liked mine, munched up the miles no problems, cheap to run & could still keep you mildly amused. Kept up with a few cars on my moterway sprints home & overtaking was a pleasure. Nice interiors - mine had full recaro leather.

Kind of gutted I parted with it for only £2900. I should have kept it, it was a good car!!

Service interval was meant to be 10k but I just kept resetting mine & it ran fine 25k miles in 1 year without a single service. Thing hardly used a drop of oil, or smoked either
