spent a fair bit on the car this week and its 600 miles over due a service, I have it booked in a Fiat tomorrow morning but Im very tempted to fuck it off and just do it my self, how important is it to have a FSH to you personaly and what would you do?
I reckon Id do a better job of it and I know Id be using the same quality stuff not to mention saving a fortune
Im never gonna sell the car private either, I just chuck them in part ex...

FSH is very important to me. Full dealer service history after the first couple isn't.
As long as its serviced regularly etc.

have you not got a mate who works at a garage that could stamp it for you if you service it your self?

Full history is worth it, but full dealer history, not worth it imo. Unless your in something really fancy then there is no point.
If you are just going to swap it in at a dealer then do it yourself if you are confident.

You can still get the book stamped by independant garages, which basically means the exact same level of work only it costs half as much.

With a service, Id rather do it myself so i know that bits aren't missed out. Not really a big job to do.

If someone is presented with 2 identical cars, one with service history and one without, they'll go for the service history one.
I wouldn't pay for it either though.
Just keep all the receipts etc, if you have all of them for every service you've done I'd think you'd taken care of it.
If you can get a stamp from somebody that's a bonus, all my cars have had FSH

Doesnt bother me, service history just means it been to a garage for an oil change once a year, means nothing in terms of if the owner has looked after it or not!

I wouldn't buy a car without full service history.
And whilst I know you aren't bothered and will just part-ex, you will get less if it hasn't got a FSH because they wouldn't be able to put it on their forecourt, so would have to flog it.
BMW (which is slightly different, granted) can't sell "An approved used BMW" if it doesn't have a FSH.

I disagree to a certain extent.
Most people who pay to have their cars serviced regularly do so to look after the car (granted, you don't know if it has been ragged shitless etc). Someone at work doesn't even know where the dipstick is or when it should have a service and won't pay out for one. That is more abused imho than someone who gets it done regularly, driven hard or not.

If you wouldn't buy a car without full service history just because it doesn't have full service history you're severely limiting yourself to say the least.

it depends on the car. if you look at alot of the vw's for sale most of them have full dealership stamped service book so anything less is abit pikey in some peoples eyes. Personally i'd just fill out the service interval in the book saying it was done privately and as long as you have the reciepts for the parts you bought theres no beef

I never even asked when I bought mine. The bloke pointed it out to me. Doesn't bother me, I just ask if it gets oil changes regularly and that does me. Then again I'm relaxed about everything

Definitely an issue.
99.9% of Saabs have full saab history, if one doesn't it sticks out a mile away.

I run my mk4 GT tdi for 30odd thousand miles just topping up the oil once, reset the service light in the works car park the day I went to view the beemer!!
Glad I did, cash retained in my pocket helped the shaby px price sink in!!

I prefer if its not dealer serviced. I've worked in a dealers and know a few people in dealers to know its not always in the best hands! Independent garages give a much better service, as its their reputation.

I sold the Ibiza with no problems and that didn't have a full dealer history, I did the last 3 services myself, kept reciepts, took pictures and filled out the service book.
Buyer was very happy with that

If I was buying a car about the age of yours matt, then yes i'd expect FSH. Mine has FSH - not all main dealer though. It adds that little extra resale value doesn't it really? I tend to do the oil and filter on mine between services anyway.

Why don't you get the oil and filter done on your car and then change naything else yourself? FFSH and cheaper

It's nice to have on a car in warranty as well.
I know you don't have to go to a dealer to keep the warranty intact, if you do have an expensive problem though, 9/10 it'll be much easier to go in with a book fully stamped by that dealer.
