Looking at changing the corsa soon as only a 1.2 sxi+ and now feeling a bit slugish and small. Will have about £10K to spend but look for a mid size diesel which is nice looking and reasonable perfomance. Ideally 2006 or newer with under 50K.
So far all i can find which we like is a 1 series (but with the M tech pack) and a Astra SRI XP.
I do like the A3 but all the ones i can see for that sort of money look boring!!
Any other ideas?

Something VAG anyway, without a doubt. Golfs are brilliant cars, not saying any of the others are shit but that's what I'd prefer.

Yeah my two week experience of VAG cost me £600 in repairs!!!
I think the 1 series is the nicest but to get a decent spec on you need around the £13K mark!

£10,500 for that plus £200 gave me 200bhp...

1.6 TDCi Focus of some sort. Plenty about at that price range. I went out in a work colleagues Titanium which has half leather, Sony MP3 cd player as standard, and I was very impressed. Handled and pulled extremely well.

Love my Mk5 Golf. Beemer would be tempting but not sure all that extra money is worth it over the Golf (or Astra/Focus/etc) tbh.

The 1.6? Are you serious? Driven a fair few of the 1.6 diesels and thought they were terrible. Good on fuel but thats about it.

The Astra 150 + remap (or box, w/e) gets my vote, its the car I want in a couple of years time
The 1.6 focus only feels quick due to you having a 1l Deano, get it on a motorway or something and it will be doing the same revs as a petrol car and be noisy as hell should think

I wasn't driving. It was really nice inside and was quiet and comfortable. Don't think it really needs a 6th gear either.
