So me and my buddy were tuning his gsx yesterday. He had just got a custom intake manifold made. We were on 29psi and full throttle, when he let off the gas we heard a pop(resembling a gunshot). He tapped the trottle and it sounded like it was a massive exhaust leak. the A/F gauge and boost gauge wasnt reading. We pulled over to find out that the intake manifold had blew up, literally. The whole bottom plate of it was blown completely off. the only thing holding it up was the break booster line.

plus any pressure vessel should have the end plates (or in this case the top and bottom) stepped in 5mm from the end to allow a constinuous fillet bead around the perimeter to stop it blowing its ends off

To be honest it looks like the welds have all cracked as you can still see the bead on both parts

tbh I thought it was a bit dubious. Near enough 2 bar of pressure? It must be a fucking monster of a motor if it's true.

Also the inlet would be sucking? So how would it bash the welds?

if the throttle was shut that means inside the inlet would be under vacuum though as its after the tb it would of been worse with the throttle open

Detonation takes place in the combustion chamber.. I'd say she back fired on the over-run just before the waste-gate had a chance to open.
