Has anyone seen this months Evo? (September issue)
Ford Focus ST Mountune (claimed 256bhp) vs Ford Focus RS (300bhp)
The ST is faster in all the tests they have printed. Some of them for people that dont have it:
0-60 5.8 (ST), 6.0 (RS)
0-100 14.3 (ST), 14.4 (RS)
0-130 27.0 (ST), 27.4 (RS)
The Mountune kit is only an extra £1096 too. They reckon their ST must be closer to 280bhp going off the performance figures but still the RS is going down in my estimations now. Hopefully they will do some timed laps soon so we can see if its the same story when corners are involved!

that .4 of a second to 130 could be made up with a different driver. like you said the real test will be how it corners

There was a blue RS up my road the other day. Usually I slag off cars then see them in the flesh and think differently. Nope... really un-impressed. All I could think of was £25k
EDIT: Saw an ST in grey, slammed, looked so much better! Agree with ST + mods = win

I said this from the start, the RS is a marketing exercise, to us that really understand how all this bollocks works they really have designed and built a car that is totally and utterly pointless.
Yet fanboys and the motoring press signed up to it stating it's brilliance.
I said it before, and I'll say it again. Buy a low mileage ST for 10-11k, spend £1096 on the Mountune kit and another £1k on LSD and maybe another £1k on coilovers and for £14k you have a better car than the RS.
Bens standard Focus ST got 252bhp on the rollers and like you say Matty with the mods it's going to be closer to 280bhp with the Mountune up grades and be 200kg lighter.
Do the math.

I've got this months Evo, and i noticed that too.
Its only quicker in a straight line.
Add some corners to the equation and its a very different story.
There have been a lot of people on RSOC, FocusRSoc and FocusRSownersclub who have come from Focus ST260's (which have been reported to be more like 285bhp) and when they got their new RS, they were very impressed with the difference in the two cars.
There will be a mountune upgrade available for the RS very shortly anyway, and once it is, that will move the game on once again.

I still don't see where the extra 10k's worth of mods come from
Coilovers, a decent geo setup and some decent tyres, LSD and I reckon you could go faster in an ST.
A diesel Astra Estate with a decent setup is faster around the 'Ring with 100bhp less FFS.

I think thats the bit thats a sickener is that the RS costs so much more than the ST. Yet you can make the ST as fast for not a lot.
Ok its not an RS but still that sort of performance per £ is hard to ignore

Its the RS badge really...
I've got to admit, that astra surprised me.
Doesn't mean the RS is shit though. Just means the Astra is bonkers.

the looks is one of the main reasons, and for insurance purposes, at least the RS is 300bhp standard so no hasstle if you smashed it up and the insurance company came to check the car.

You can get it declared fairly cheap;y. My mate is actualy paying less on his stage 2 mountune upgrade on his fiesta ST then he was previously on his standard set up.

Mr Mike being a decent member as well, not the sort of person to make up claims and he does a few trackdays so knows how to drive.
Has similar mods to me.

If i had the money, i wouldnt buy a focus RS. Agree with OJC. It seems a marketing plan for a day light robbery. Cant you pick up Brand new ST'S for nearly £10k less than a RS?
Would much rather a RS with a few mods! I think the RS looks abit 'Hot wheels' too, which is bad comming from a young nipper like myself
A lime green one over took me on the M1 and he looked at me very smug... ....and i laughed thinking how he had glasses, grey beard, and drove a bodykit green car.

Im sure alot of money has been put into the engine over the ST Lump ! Looking At brosters thread from a simple repmap its made 370-380 brake a ST lump isnt going to do that without £££ chucked at it, so there are differences between the cars, getting bit sick of people slaggin RS's off when Astra VXR's torque Steer all over the road and understeer round corners of course from factory standard. But hey im sure im going to get some abuse now by Ojc lol

They dont actually torque steer that bad, unless you totally let go off the wheel (which you wouldnt unlike clarkson did). I drove a older remapped Mk4 gsi and that doesnt pull and has the same power as the VXR in a older design car.

You have never driven one that is clear to see, you just take what Clarkson says as gospel.

who said i taking clarkson's word for it, ive seen it with my own eyes, torque steer doesnt bother me in the slightest i actually like it, lets u know u have some power under the bonnet as for letting go of the steering wheel is just stupid, but the understeer round corners is what im saying in factory form it still needs some money chucked at it to make it go round corners as well as the RS
