I'd sooner take my car to a tuning/dyno specialist with ECU and mapping things. To many things to go wrong. But they are making DIY maps much easier nowadays.

It depends what they do, we use Autodelta diesel tuning boxes at work everyday, essentially they're just a variable resistor in the fueling wiring that up the fuel pressure, never had a problem with them and our customers love them

The plug in jobbies usually just up the fuelling so can make them run horid, just get it remapped

Drive a 12v up the same hill then consider getting a tuning box. You don't need one.

Really you guys need to change your opinions on Tuning Box's.
They have come on a long way and are regularly the prefered choice on many diesels.

I had a DTUK Green Box on my CDTI150. It was producing just over 200bhp and god knows how much torque. I had no problems.

So stick with a trusted make (DTUK?) and all should be fine?

Nothing can go wrong, you just take it off if there's a problem.
Remaps are better though.
You don't want a box that's just a resistor, a digital one that can at least adjust the fueling well is a must.

I'm not sure what ones are twhat tthese days. I'll have a look when i get a chance later. The dtuk ones are good afaik but weren't too cheap last time i checked. When i had mine i'm almost sure the one box fitted all common rail diesels.

i always prefer an actual remap to a box which fools the ecu into doning something its not.

A box is about half the price and if you want can be removed as easily as it was installed.
Im getting a 4m long iveco daily and want a box for that but im unsure what make to go for.

I've got Johns old one on my Fiat now. It's good because you get a bit more power, but it kills all the low end off and you get all the power in one big lump.
So, in conclusion, it works and doesn't kill the engine. But a re-map would be a lot smoother.
