A mate is thinking about getting one of these soon, not sure which version though.

Do they blow up and go on fire like Rx7's? Do the engines need replacing every 5 miles too?

Seriously though, do they need the engines rebuilding every x '000 miles? Are they reliable cars?

Stupid on fuel / oil consumption, yes you can get them cheap but you will need ££££ to run them!

Do a search. You'll find everything you need to know, punctuated by CN and I arguing.

Used to work for Mazda, no end of bother with them. Gargantuan oil consumption. Always had them in getting fixed and that was only at a year old!

After what sort of mileage do the engines need re-building? 60-100k?

If they're looked after they won't need rebuilding. If you drive sensibly, they don't eat oil and petrol. Granted they use more than a piston engine but not so much as people make out.

Arent the engines designed to 'use' oil unlike petrol engines which are not?

Yes they are. Oil sprays from the eccentric shaft around the internal surfaces of the rotors and the chamber walls to cool and lubricate. You can see one of the spray nozzles here, to the right of the hand:

Theres a nice black one over the road, has what looks like Pro-race 2's fitted.

I like

Heard the tales of using lots of oil & fuel - need to top up with oil every 3-4 times you fuel up.......who knows though

Has anyone on here actually ever OWNED one?

I'm going off what's basically the same engine in mine.

You might have to put 200ml or so in mine for every 76 litres of fuel, the way people say "top up with oil" makes it sound like "fill up with oil". Not the case.

Pablo actually had an RX8.

Some cars use oil, its just part & parcel of ownership.

My old mans Audi has used 1/2L every several thousand miles since it was brand new. My Golf with 100k miles which I owned at the same time used hardly any. - think I topped up once in 30k miles I done!!

It wouldnt bother me personally & certainly not something to cause worry.

CTR's/S2k's apparently use oil aswell so ive heard

Isn't drinking oil on 'normal' engines something to do with how they were run in?

Mine doesn't drink any! Never had to top it up!

I read they can last 120k before a rebuild.

Only the 230bhp model is worth having imo.
