Here are a few pics of my mates Cup on track at Knockhill last week. Its a rapid wee thing running high 13sec 1/4 mile times. Its had a lot of cash spent on it and is running over 210bhp iirc.

Its for sale BTW

Agree, plate position, the black, mirrors, drivers side light, not keen on wind deflectors, great track toy though.

At least hes not one of those bullshitters that say hes never raced it. Personally i'm not keen on the front of it or the mirrors but overall its a very clean wee car.

Why would it put people off, you saying to me that if your were gonna buy any kind of hot hatch or modded sporty car you'd know for a fact it wasnt "raped" on a road/track at some point???

I used to work at a dealership, tell a customer its an ex race bike or a track bike and they dont want it as anyone with half a brain knows engine, drivetrain, suspension and brakes have all been under a shit load more stress than they were designed for or than a well kept road only equivalent. We wouldnt buy in track or race bikes for the very same reason as you could well be buying a can of worms.

If i was goging to buy a 172 id look for a clean low mileage one with history and a respectable looking previous owner. I wouldnt buy a car of somone who painted the bonet black and told me it does 13 second times at the pod and beats bmws's round a track as i know its going to have been abused and the lifespan on wearing parts will have been shortened somewhat.

What a load of shite

I have had my car on the 1/4 mile and give it some serious stick now and then, plus whats apperances to do with it, but just because of that no one should buy my car??? If you really think that when you go to look at a car thats been pretty highly modded and the owner hasnt raced about in it then your head is in the clouds lol.

The lifespan has nothing to do with it also as most of the important parts like suspension, brakes, engine components have been upgraded to high quality parts so the odd 1/4 mile/track day (this is his first) really isnt a problem.

Oli on here has a very nice VXR Burg that has been modded highly and taken his car on one of the worlds most demanding tracks does that mean to say that you should stay clear of the car if he sold it???

Its not abuse mate, I just dont understand why he said that the apperance of someone would scare you off from buying a car as well as admitting that its done a few 1/4 mile runs or the odd track day lol. Fair enough the looks aint for everyone (Including me) but the rest of the car is kept up to a very high standard.

It wouldn't bother me, the way I see it is, if you by a second hand car then you should be prepared for it to break as things do wear out, chances are though that that car has also been well maintained and will probably be just as reliable as the next 172.

Jesus, some people need to come up with their own opinions and not just copy others.

I'd have thought if it's running 210 brake and it's had a big cash injection it'd be more than able to take the 'abuse' it gets tbh.

Exactly alan, alot of people on here just follow the crowd unfortunatly.

Its usually the ones that say they would never touch a car thats been given stick thats usually thrashed there own cars but dont admit it for fear of bein hounded on the site

I give my own cars stick all the time, and I know the damage it can cause to them, hence why I wouldnt knowingly buy one thats been hammered everywhere, you can usually spot them a mile off, my 172 got raped most of its life probably even though it had 50k miles and a full service history and was in a good clean nick bodywork wise, I still bought it and it was a dog. Hence why I wouldnt again, unless it was very cheap, like my 172 was.

Surely that depends entirely on what you want from your car? I wouldn't buy it if I wanted a car for long motorway journeys day to day, but I should imagine most people who would look to buy a car like this are looking at buying one racing/fast road anyway. As said above, at least the guy is being honest and a car CAN be used hard regularly as long as things are properly maintained.

Silly billy!

Its just a general assumption that itl break and wont be reliable because its been ragged around a track etc.You cant help but think that. Its not a bad thing, its the way the mind works.
Unless i was in the market for a car that would be tracked alot,it would put me off also.

The 172 cup was pretty much made to be thrashed round a track lol

His is far from standard as well so all the uprated parts should put up wit the odd track day no problem

The headlight is out so that the filter gets as much cold air as possible. You car just see the Green filter in the pic.

Bit of a contradiction there, it wasnt really made for the track was it though, if that was the case, the standard parts would be more than enough for the job so why the need to upgrade stuff? Although they are very capable cars, its basically just a gimmick in standard form.

What the fuck?

It's a production track orientated car made to limits and budgets. Obviously it's not going to have carbon ceramic brakes and 500bhp.

A megane R26R is an out and out track car - are you saying you wouldn't be able to upgrade any parts on it to make it go round faster?

Come on to grips.
