I have protected no claims on a fully comp policy. My car needs £600 worth of paint doing now through a brick coming off a lorry, dickheads that throw doors into it, a cracked wing mirror and a keyed wing.
Will it effect my Premium much if i throw the car in on the insurance?
Why pay £600 out when i can pay £70 excess!
Advice here dudes..
I have a crime number for the keyed wing.

it's an 07 plate car dude. Books in at just under 5k at the moment.
Had a couple of these dent companies look at the creases. They can't really be pulled out
Dents need pulling out and a bit of filler, bonnet needs pulling out and again some filler and the wing needs painting.

That claim will be with you for 5 years, ytou could end up paying over £600 in iinsurance increase over 5 years.

^^ Ditto.
You will pay for it in the end either way so you might as well throw it on a credit card if you cant afford it and pay it off slowly.

If you're protected, probably be better of going through insurance.
How come the company who own the brick company aren't paying for it?

Even if your protected you keep your NCD but still pay a higher premium because you've claimed.

To be fair, even on a 5k car, you still risk it becoming a Cat D.
Even with protected NCB, you will still be penalised for the 5 years which the claim stays with you.

Get a quote for next year with the claim and see what it costs extra, at 27 years old I doubt it will amount to 600 over the 3 years that most companies ask about crashes for.

Yep I agree with John, I'd have thought after 25, an accident/vandalism claim will make little difference in premium each year.
If it's bothering you that much go through the insurance or wait for a couple of weeks/months and save up the cash to get it done.

They might charge you a little more, but still nothing like as expensive as without being protected and I also can't see it adding up to more than £600 over 5 years.

Protected only mean you can make say 1 claim in 3 years without losing your NCD benefit. Doesn't say anything about price not going up as it's still a claim. Granted at 25+ prob won't be much difference but it'll still go up.

I wrote my Corsa off last year with 4 years protected no claims. Made absolutely no difference to my next premium. In fact I'm now paying less on a more expensive car as the insurance company (strangely) added another years no claims to my policy.
I can make up to 3 claims in 3 years and still retain full NCB. Only the 4th claim in 3 years and I'll loose it.

As above..
Non fault calims on 3rd parties 'technically' shouldnt affect you but some times they do .. A non-fault claim on your own policy will affect you because clearly you are a higher risk if you have been targetted before .. Try some online quotes with and without a 600 quid claim for vandalism.

My renewal is due in September. I'm thinking of renewing and then a month into the policy claim.
Am i correct in thinking that if i pay the insurance in full, they will then only charge me the excess?

Correct. But it seems like a load of hassle for little gain.

It's not even 5 years, very few ask for 5 years worth of accidents, normally 3.

I probably wouldn't claim for what andrew is talking about but that's only because I'm brainwashed into thinking it makes your insurance go up loads for the next 3 years even though I know from experience it doesn't
