Anyone done it? if so how did you find it?

Obviously I know its going to vary greatly from car to car but just wondered what you thought.

Just as some of you know I had a bump in my car and have been offered a new rolling shell to put all my bits in.

I can't see it being hard. Get a couple of you who know what you're doing and it'll take no time at all.

If it were me I'd take step by step pictures of things if you think you'll forget how they came apart. Also stick with one bit of the car at a time. Eg do the interior first or the engine first, engine would probably be easier to do first.

I'd imagine it be quite a good experience.

Why would you want to go to the extreme of re-shelling? How bads the damage?

You're not really re-shelling, if the new shell has an id you're using your car to repair that vehicle. So ideally you need it to not be on the register or anything like that.

Pritty bad wheel alingment is off so I assume the chassis took some of it.

Plus at this shell should work out cheaper then repairing if I can do most of the work myself

Fair play, if you know what your doing then its not too bad i suppose, like Graham said, do it in stages, last things id be putting on though is the doors, boot etc, give you more space to work with.

Doesnt mean to say chassis has took the damage, but even if it has, will still be repairable. Any pics?

check or make sure your car is a non fixer (i.e needs jigged). Dont just assume.

If it isnt that bad it wont cost heaps

I twatted my green corsa off a big granite wall at about 60. Caved in the front O/S corner. The car was about 5" shorter there, and the chassis leg was bent onto the engine, arch onto wheel etc. That wasnt fixable.

Paid LeeM £500 to reshell the car (inc cage). I provided a rolling shell (with 1.0 engine hehe)

Yes, if the chassis is bent, it is fixable still, thats your opinion to get rid, but its still fixable, and would still drive straight and true afterwards

Car that's been bent like that is never the same afterwards.

its fixable.... with a lot of hassle and in my opinion will never drive true and straight again. Funny geometry might make up for some of the errors, but it will never be the same again.

Its a honda civic not a rare car. Shells are plentifull.

(just MAKE SURE its bent before deciding to reshell )
