depending on insurance one of my mates is lending me his pulsar and hes having my corsa for a week or so. Its not running stupid power, 280 bhp ish @ 1 bar

reason behind one of these for now is that a type r scooby is 2.4k to insure untill im a year older, so i may as well hang on abit

I have done a search and get the general idea that ill be fixing a pulsar more than my corsa (if i had one)

Would this be true?

I always hear rumours of exactly the same thing. Always off the road, needing repairs. But the real truth is, if they are looked after, not abused from the time its started they are generally good cars. Too many people buy them cheap, whack the boost up and complain when they go wrong. I now have 3 mates with them and they havnt let none of them down yet.

This is an un abused example has very subtle mods, doesnt get its arse kicked daily, id consider px as he wants my corsa along with his other one

All my mates have praised them massively for their handling once using the right gear, which would make it a great little fun car.

I'm looking forward to it actually obviously im going drive it with abit of respect but the 4wd meaning lots of grip (more than a 270bhp fwd car) im imagining its going to be addictive.

I have raced him in my corsa and in a stright line from mid range i went past but off the mark and corners i got owned

he's lending you his pulsar, not borrowing you it. You are borrowing it from him.

Anyway...

Yeah, as above. If they are maintanied, kept in fresh oil/filters/plugs etc they shouldnt be a problem. They do cost a fair bit more to maintain PROPERLY compared to a corsa though. Oil for difs, TX boxes etc.

Most problems are due to folk tuning them incorrectly/on a tight budget. Upped boost with no supporting fueling or cooling. Upped torque with no regard to the gearbox.

EDIT - Just for you AK

My corsa doesnt get used enough at the minute and if i had it id be on limited mileage anyway. I wouldn't go power crazy i know that you cant do one thing without a whole host of other things to suit as that causes weak links

A friend of mine said don't bother the gearboxes are made like chocolate - my mate knows this because he is good friends with Simon Norris who tunes / fixes them and to change the gearbox it's an engine out jobby!

On the other hand they do go like fuck and have plenty of potential!!!

Not to sure on the looks or interior though

I almost bought a Pulsar a few years ago, would definetly have been an impulse buy as im now really not keen on them at all. As for reliability, its the same as any other car, if you look after and maintain it properly you shouldnt have too many problems and dont as has been said just turn the boost up and ignore all the other components that have extra pressure put on them.

Corsa_sport21 will be able to tell you that his 300+bhp Pulsar didn't put a foot wrong and that was driven hard. It all depends on how well they are maintained.

the general idea im getting then, is if thier maintained regardless of cost and you dont buy a dog to start off with then their not to bad, but if you buy the wrong one treat it wrong then im going end up worse off?

A mate of mine had one, was running over 400bhp though and went through a fair few gearboxes. Other than that though he didn't have any problems.

The gearbox issuse. alot of people complain about this.

If its a weak point, why dont people put an uprated one in or have it dipped, have all parts hardend and put it back together?

The gearboxes, again they tend to go bang if you go a bit mental with the launches.
