ino this is a corsa forum but what the hell.
thinkin of buying 1,
i heard the engine is the same as whats in the rs1800, but just restricted.
can you just replace the parts from an rs1800 engine into the fiesta engien to undo the restriction and get it back to 130bhp?

The 1.6 CVH is faster than the 1800 zetec.
To ge the 1800 up to power you need to swap cams, inlet and ecu but tbh its not worth tthe hasstle. plus the 16v ones are hard to come by. Just get a CVH, mine was awesome fun - sounded great with a stainless exhaust on!

Or stick a 2.0 mondeo engine in, that would be easier. IIRC I think you can use the 2.0 inlet, I loved my RS1800, gonna get another as a track car when funds permit.

Faster than what 1800 Zetec? Maybe just maybe the 105bhp 1.8 16v in the XR2i, but not the 130bhp RS1800 1.8 16v.

Thats what i meant. The 16v XR2i had to be de tuned so it didnt outpace the flagship RS1800 of the time. so they dropped power to 105bhp but i think it had a closer ratio gearbox than the CVH so it was barely slower.

Trouble with CVH they are all quite worn out now, the Zetec is a lot better engine IMO

I was gutted when I found out how slow the 1.8 2i was, didn't keep it long

Lol yeah, thats why i got the CVH, was a hoot to drive! Handled really well and you could fire it out of corners at speeds you didnt think an 8v would manage lol!
Its true the CVH's are worn out, but it costs what? £100 to rebuild one? bang a high lift cam in it and stick an ashley manifold and pipe on it and its still cheap fun. I do want another one but 80s-early 90's fords dont come without cancer somewhere on them now.

i think ill stick to the 1.8 as all the 1.6s ive seen are very worn out, including shell. the 1.8 ive got my eye on has 51 thou miles and mint condition,
and yes there what 10bhp less than the 1.6 but there just as fast 0-16 and only a few mph down on top speed, but with a few of the restrictions gone, it wont be to bad.

Eh? They aren't, the 130bhp XR3i is quite rare to find due to the RS2000 being released around the same time with 150bhp. The 130bhp 1.8 16v is miles ahead of the 105bhp, it pulls harder and is so free revving. One of the best engines I've had in a car to date.
