Ok, so I've been after another one of these for a while now and finally found a mint, bog standard one. The bodywork is in amazing condition, no rust, dents etc as is the interior, it'l be a shame to rip most of it out. Put a deposit down so it's as good as mine. It's an N reg 1.6 8v xsi (sunroof model). Can't wait to get my hands dirty again it will be made into a fast road/track car, should be taking it to combe with WR in september on its first track outing if all goes well, have quite a few plans for it so I'll make a progress thread when I get it home.

First things I'll be doing is removing rear wiper, grommet in place...remove badges, replace the fogs with rallye inserts, remove passanger side lock then get it lowered and rallye steelies, I won't be driving it for another month anyway. I'll then concentrate on the engine and then interior and then a few more touches to the outside. Got so much in mind for it, too much to write down here at the minute I don't have to worry about the MOT anyway as it just flew through one last month.

Looks a tidy one!

If you want more power please go 16v - unless your going to spend on carbs/cams etc.?

That's the plan, tbh if you don't spend big money you can get the same bhp out of the 8v as you can wit hthe 16v. I had an 8v a few years back and it was RR'd at 143bhp, was mega fun.

Aye but that's getting the 8v to the level of a 16v laddie Sooo much easier to get power from that lump

True, only 15bhp between the two though. I suppose it could happen in the future but I wouldn't mind getting an 8v past 150bhp, plus this was too hard to pass up in the condition it's in

Budgeted £500 for the parts, as all I need it a 16v engine & loom, my box, clutch shafts etc will fit.

Work will be done by myself and my brother, so wont be much.

Cheshire

Theres a few GTI & VTS's being broken around here, and a guy in the next village who has a gti rally car, always has bundles of bits for sale.

Id defo reccommend a supersprint exhaust, i love the noise of mine now, pops and bangs all the time, sounds awesome
