I thought rapid cooling hardens metal, or isit only aluminium

a few people i know have done it in the past but imo i would just get some proper ones made..

no they didnt break but wasnt very good as the coils wer very close so wasnt a nice ride at all..

rate them similar to chopped springs tbf..

complete bodge and shouldnt be done, not just for your sake but other road users..

coilspring made me a set for my old corsa and their work was faultless.

heating and compressing is a mugs game tbh

Ive done it before, worked fine. Changed 40mm springs into about 70mm and never had a problem.

No harm in trying. just make sure you measure how much you are doing it and dont go over the top with it.
