the 1.7 16v, they seem to be going fairly cheap these days - bit of a birds car but im thinking more along the lines of value for money.
Any known problems etc and just your general opinion on them means alot, thanks

Mother has one. Not rapid but its a revvy little engine, good fun, handles brilliantly. Insides a bit basic but I'm used to my car so it will be in comparison. The rear seats are tiny and the way the roof slopes means you will only get kids or small people in the back.
Only problem she has had with hers in 2.5 years is rust appearing on the cills about the bottom of the door opening.
I really like driving it!

they are nice cars to drive and are pritty nippy, if you can get a racing puma they just go better they are lowerd slightly with stiffer springs and are such a hoot to drive.

Ive got one. Only thing i have bought for it is a heater control valve ( probably my fault tbh) but it was brittle and a pipe snapped off. Cost 20 quid and 5 mins to fix.
They do handle very well as standard, i was stupid suprise.
The girly comments come from people who have never been in one or had anything to do with one (like the bmw and no indicater situation)
They go well, excellen on fuel if driven under normal circumstances ( ie average 38 dirivng round town, and did 300 miles to £27 quid once doing 70 the speed limit on motorway (with a quick 1*0 blat when fuel was 90 a litre)
Go well aswell for a little car, even tough first gear is awfull due to the torque limiter!
If you are over 4 foot talll, fook all room in the back.
The parcel shelves fall into the boot (all are like this and they are like paper).
Just keep them topped up with oil as these rev happy engine use abit, and they are very reliable.
And the rust thing. Its less common in pumas compaired to fiestas for some reason, but yes does happen due to the washing machines they make them out of.
I didnt even want a puma, never considerd one, but i know someone selling one and said do you want it. I had a go in it and then made a real opinion of it, as was very suprised. Underated imo, and if performance is what you are after, alot better than a zetec s fiesta)

copy / paste of a previous post of mine
evo 5 out of 5 car, comments are + everything -nothing
top gear car of the year on release
2001, What Car Used Sports Car Of The Year
2004, What Car Best Used Sporting Car of the Year Under £10k
Future classic - fifth gear - link
Top gear had a future classic feature a few month ago.
The ford puma is a massively under-rated car.
It is not a just a fiesta in drag.
It WILL rust though, on the rear arches.
I smile every time I drive mine.

Are there any nice little mods you can do on these?
Like the vectra air box intake pipe for the 1.8 astra coupe type mod.
Any body styling bits that are easily swapable? The side indicators are pretty shit. Anything in the ford range that fits and looks prettier?

Focus st170 wheels and brakes do them a treat.
And engine mods.
Racing puma inlet and exhaust manifold + the racing puma map and its another 30 bhp.
