i had £2,000 to buy a new car, and was looking for a lupo, but one didnt come up and i was getting stessed..

been without a car for 3ish months now..

so decided to get a cheaper car and go away in the summer to my parents villa in spain...

so the list of cars that im thinking of now is..

black mk4 polo (6n)
mk4 escort 1.1/1.3 (base model)
nova

or something similar that comes up..

i want to spend around £1k max, so the polo for a nice example would be at the top of my (wanting to pay) budget (but keep it standard for a while, then just wheels and coilovers) or a mk4 escort/nova for around 500 clean example and spend £500 on it..

need some answers to help me decide..

thanks.

Omega

You can pick up an early face lift (2000) 2.0 GLS for naff all these days, and I doubt it will cost you much to insure.

Mk4 polos are slower than a week in the jail and pretty shit to drive. Can make them look good for not alot of cash tho.

Base model mk4 escort.

I would go for the nova if you can find a good shell. Cheap conversion if you fancy one later and spares etc are cheap.

Are you actually serious they made a 1.1 escort? The 1.3 in the Fiesta is slow as feck let alone a car the size of an Escort

Out of all those (shite) choices you would have to go for a Polo, but £1000 would buy you a proper decent bigger car at the moment, along the lines of what mattk said

I'd say a mk4 escort would be a good buy but with a 1.4 at the smallest tbh cheap parts, plenty scrapped I would imagine

yes im 100% sure they made a 1.1 mk4 escort, ive had 3 1.3 mk4s (when i bought them, didnt stay that way for long) but arnt dog slow..

the thing is i dont want a bigger newer car, i like the older cars which have more character etc..

Going for something so old though, arent you looking at saving on initial outlay only to find 2 months down the road something big needs replacing or it fails an MOT or something like that, pushing the true cost of buying the older car potentially higher than buying a newer one?

I wouldn't get any of those. I'd be more enclined to get a high mileage mk4 golf or something like that.

Either VW Polo or the Nova.

Polos are slow and heavy (i've got the 6n2 - facelft of the one posted above).

tbh out of that lot, neither.

I'd rather buy a nice cheap Corsa B, or corsa C 1.4 16v, to maintain cheap tax and insurance.
