I know its a long time away but bored so thought i'd go ahead and ask this..
When i'm 19 I want to do a conversion on my car, either a C20LET or a C20XE.
It will be used as an everyday car so needs to be fairly reliable, what one would you recommend?
Also what are the average prices of each engine and the cost for the actual conversion?

From what i have herd, for an xe fully fitted youre looking at around £1000-1500
And for a let £4000 seems to spring up an awfull lot.
Ofcorse, that with the people who do it for a living!

I've had 3 xe's.
One was reliable, an air flow meter went. Thats it.
One blew up the first night I had it, lack of oil.
One, everything went wrong with it, loom, sensors, cams, coilpack, spark plugs, injectors and more.
Found the xe engines are more economical than 1.6 sports, the only problem is you boot it everywhere.
I've not owned a LET but been out in a couple, was out in one this evening. Big smiles all round....They're quick little cars!
Cost, You're looking about a grand for everything.

do everything yourself, its the only way you know whats been done, and if it goes wrong you caqn only lame yourself, plus youll learn lots in the process and save lots

Only going off what luke with the blue let said, but tbh i think he said that included coilovers etc etc which are needed!

Best off doing it all yourself, It aint hard (unless you do a turbo engine which i have no clue about) But an XE is pretty simple to do and can be dropped in the bay and wired in etc in less than 5 hours.

I use my XE as an everyday car and IMO its perfect. I can drive to the shops in it or go on a long motorway journey. also enough power there to make you smile!
Had a few glitches with mine , but will be back very soon!

Find a well serviced long running XE lump. Induction Kit and full system. Decent service when you put it in. Plugs/Cambelt/Water Pump/Oil Filter etc.
Mine has been in for a long time now, the engine has done 160k. When I put it in (on 140k) it had 14 service history stamps. I change the oil every 3k or so and don't thrash it from cold. Has been good as gold.
If it blows up get another

Neah i didnt get coilovers, i already had them on the car .
I've owned both xe & c20let.
My first xe engine was mint, ran bang on. It blew up, my fault .
My second xe engine was " rebuilt ", was a nail of an engine & the bottom end was hangine out.
My third xe engine was from VPSC, one week after getting the car running the headgasket went.
My c20let engine & bits cost about £4500 & thats without beardy's labour, painting work, boost pipes & exhaust. So if you do it propperly it will cost alot of money.
My car is my everday car, It gets used like it should be. It does get the right foot put down a few times.
It puts a massive smile on your face & the noise is amazing! But as lee said, it's not worth it. In total i've got reciepts over 9k for my car & i sometimes wish i had spent that money else where, but it's something i wanted for sooooo long.
If well looked after both engines can be reliable. But do expect hick ups even if you get NEW everything. The technology in these engines are 20 years old now. Hope all the above helps you out .

Ive yet to sit down and properlty work out what mine stands me in, but its over 4k 
the satisfaction when i drove it the other day though from building it all myself is awesome( didnt even get past 3k revs either lol)

V6, best of both worlds, but more torque and more reliable than an XE and a 3.0 isnt far off a standard LET for power. 3.0 will cost like £700 to do it yourself though.

The V6 weighs more than the moon though and the center of gravity is alot further forward too, really not good for a FWD car .
Got to agree with Brett you'd be better off blowing £3k on a face-lift WRX.

He's obviously talking about some standard UK car with 210bhp, which to todays standards are equally matched in power by a lot of cars. A version like an STI or even STI PPP is a different story.
I know this is a corsa website, but come on, keep it real. Some people need to take off the rose-tinted glasses

The face-lift classic WRX is around 270bhp and will own an XE corsa in any situtation and will launch better than a LET and definitely destroy it on the corners.. De-cat down pipe, boost controller and a decent exhaust system and you are looking at nice bit over 300bhp and a pretty quick car.

WRX's do nothing for me every man and his dog has one, yes they are better than corsas but im not comparing them to corsas I just think theres far better cars out there than a scooby!
Id take an old evo 4 over a a wrx anyday.
